Get a buddy, someone you are always honest with, don't step on the scale every day, do it every week (daily fluctuations will get you down), tell the buddy everything you have done, exercising, the time you really wanted a burger and fries but got a salad, etc. If you lie to your buddy your diet is over.
Never buy unhealthy things at the store, make it so that if you want ice-cream or chocolate you have to go to the store to get it, stock up on carrots, celery, tzatziki sauce, soy sauce, tuna, chicken breasts and other things you might crave but are healthy.
Exercise every day, it does not have to be much, but make it a routine, if it's walking 1 mile, that's awesome,, if it's cycling 25 power to you, the trick is to start and do it every day and then see if you want to add to it.
I guess I should add I went from 250lbs to 160lbs
