Lol I love sour things! Cut up cucumbers, add strawberries, lots of salt, and squeeze some lemon juice. Eat it, and drink the salty lemon juice!

Yums I thought it was just me that drank that stuff :D xx

Could it be that although being diuretic it is in fact the potassium-sparing part of it that makes us crave so much sodium? Xx

Yes, that seems to be it.

My number one salty snack is flavoured Sunflower seeds with the shells still on.  Always has been and I can go through 2-3 1lbs bag per week, and that's me limiting my intake. lol

Can't say I've had massive cravings though and I've been on Spiro since December.  The multiple trips to the bathroom has even subsided in recent weeks compared to when I first started Spiro, even though my water intake per day hasn't changed.  (Thank goodness for that, it was annoying!)

Not once in 5 years on Spironalactone. I have never been one to snack or have cravings.

I noticed the cravings when I started Spiro.  My favorite snack after a run is now pepperoni.  I used to crave carbs and feed it with chocolate milk, but I crave salt so much now after a workout.  I buy the 1 pound stick at the grocer and cut off slabs to eat to satisfy my salt hunger.  In other salt craving situations I like to eat pistachios or sunflower seeds to feed it.
Some people say I'm apathetic, but I don't care.

I eat a few small tomatoes at breakfast during the week and cover them in salt. Oh, celery with salt is a must.

Yes, salty tomatoes! Since starting HRT, I love to satisfy my cravings for salt and spice with a big glass of V8 + dashes of Tobasco + plenty of salt. <3

Salt cravings here too.  My go-to is very salty country ham - each time I go to the fridge, I'll grab a slice.  And once I put one chip in my mouth, I find it hard to stop these days.

Some good suggestions above though for satisfying the salt cravings without adding an unhealthy dose of fat.  V8 + Tabasco + salt sounds pretty good!

I am a salt addict these days!! I cook with salt, add salt to the serving on the plate and salt every bite. I can't get enough!!!

LOL I know right :)

I also just came back from grocery shopping and I just noticed women in general are addicted to salt. Here's why, the dill pickles were on sale and most if not all women I saw at the store had a bottle in their shopping cart haha.

Anyways, salt is the bomb.

Too much salt is generally bad for you but since Spiro is a potassium sparing diuretic a little extra fluid retention isn't a bad thing. Progesterone also has a mild diuretic/hypotensive effect so the two in combo can drop your pressure dramatically. My normal had been around 96/52 but since adding more sodium it's gone up to a more reasonable 108/62, on average.

I stopped taking Spiro 2 years ago.   I still love those salty carbs!   Perhaps it's not spiro, but estrogen?

While I'm not on Spiro yet...  it's definitely in my future.  I've always loved pickles, either sweet or sour.  We used to cure our own.  I also developed a love of olives, of all types.  But if you really want salty olives, you should try the traditional dry Greek cured.  They look like little salty raisins.  Plus you get all the health effects of the natural oils as well.

I never have urges for salt. I do drink lots & lots of water just to be safe with spiro, more than I would normally drink, gonna have a glass right now.

And it's not a health detriment to do so while on spiro is it? I am not on it yet, but.. need to know! lol! I love salt enough. I mean, I never add more but naturally salty things? Heck yasss!

No actually salt is good unless you like to pee all the time. I was told to increase sodium intake and decrease potassium.  If you take in more sodium it will help you pee less and actually help you stay hydrated
