Okay.. So, unlike the majority of the world, I barely get onto my Facebook.. Like maybe ONCE A MONTH but just to check up on the family and a few dear friends or maybe nab a pic or two of me for wonderful places like this :). However this time I forgot my stupid password!! I know what you're thinking.. Simple right? Just click "forgot password".. NOPE. I forgot that when I changed my gmail I didn't update it on FB (OOPS). So I fill out all the security things, jumped through all the hoops, just to get an email from The Facebook Team saying my account is being locked until I give them a picture of my I.D., again, this wouldn't normally be a problem (that's if you're cisgendered). So because my legal name is Jacob and my name on FB is Serenity they have decided to block me from my own page! I tried explaining that I'm going through my transition, and that I have yet to legally change my name, I gave them my birthday, my mothers name, my sisters name, my fathers name, and my fiancees name. I've sent them 7 pictures, three of which aren't even on my Facebook and one was my license! (I look exactly the same seeing as I was long haired at the time of the picture) (see pics below). I honestly don't know what else I can do. And according to my sister in law i'm not the first trans person that they've kicked bc of identity issues. Has this happened to any of you guys/gals? What are your thoughts on this? Are our Facebooks not physical (in a way) and Intellectual property? There are things I can NEVER replace on there. How in the world can they do this??? I mean the guy I've been emailing doesn't care and SERIOUSLY isn't listening. Do I need to give a blood sample? retinal scan? finger print?? GAHHHHHH!!!!!

I don't use Facebook, so I can't offer any real help, but is there not someone else you could contact there other than the guy you've been talking to? How about getting a family member to contact them?

That is an idea!!... Thanks Sunderland :)

I think you misunderstand the nature of the relationship you have with Facebook. You basically have no rights. You'd have signed that all away when you signed up, and what little you didn't you can't afford to fight for anyway. The purpose of you being on Facebook is so that they can sell you to advertisers, and they can make more money doing that if they know who you are. It's not cost effective for them to have better support, so they don't. If you don't like it, its not Facebook's problem.

Its the same with all these types of sites including google, its how they make their money. I'm not saying its right or wrong, I think its just best to understand.

Oh no I understand hun. But I refuse to not be heard. Sorry just in my nature. Ppl like you might just go oh well, who am I to try to change it? But ppl like me FIGHT for whats right. I get why they have stepped up the security for accounts, thats great! I get that they make money off of us, good for them! I get that they dont give two S***S about us, but nor do we them! But im an innocent honest person and i've provided evidence of that. My gender identity shouldn't merit them denying my access to whats mine (yes its their site i get that). I've jumped through their hoops and if I don't get a friggin' biscuit i'm gonna rip up the sofa!!! Those are my pictures, my words, practically the story of my life! (well since I joined in 2008) And just bc one dude says no-go doesn't mean there is no other way! I respect your blunt input but I cannot appreciate your all-is-doomed attitude love! I think its just best you understand. XOXO

Can you revive your old gmail account?

Its been too long :( Thanks anyway though I really appreciate it!! I guess that window is relatively small.. Im gonna see about having my fiancee contact The Facebook team, as well as my sister. Maybe that will work :) I also plan to call (thats if theres a number). Probably gonna have to deal with alot of communicative issues due to their call center most likely being out of the U.S. but whatever it takes!! IM NOT GIVING UP. :D I really wonder if theres more trans ppl affected by this. If so then I feel like something should be started to help us all. And I will gladly storm those gates. They mess with Serenity, they get my rage. But im not a fighter. I use my wits to win like any smart girl should ;)

Haha! I like your tenacity. :)

Thank you Sunderland. I have the grip of a Kaiju when I am passionate enough about something! Hell I began dressing FULL TIME AT 13!! (Mind you i grew up in rural northern missouri) The harrasment and abuse i faced everyday wasn't for me, it was for all of us in a way. what really got the ball rolling was me wearing the most gorgeous dress to homecoming (despite warnings from my principle) (she called my dad) HA! And soon enough the gays started shining one by one!! :D I hate to say I paved that path for them and I, but i did drop kick the door down .. :) I fought with every teacher and any administrator in my way until they all fell like dominoes.

Wow, that's awesome! I didn't have anywhere near that level of courage to express my true gender when I was that young. I was too scared to even dress up in private. I was in total denial about how I felt.

I bet you looked beautiful in your dress. :)

It's a bit of a long shot, but you if the old gmail account has expired, you might be able to open a new one that has the same email address as the old one.

They blocked me from using the name I had been using for a couple of years and panicked me into using my birth name which spawned concerned pms from my friends that I had changed my mind so to speak. I tried to change it but 60 days must elapse and I'm not convinced that will go easily. Hate them.

I think this is completely poppycock, but I've come to reply completely off track and say, Serenity, damn, your licence photo is hot af. Can you teach us all how to take delicious licence photos please?

I refuse to use Facebook, but I do use LinkedIn which is much the same in principal. The difference is that I need LinkedIn for work and have no real use for Facebook - its not my kind of thing. Makes the decision easy I suppose.

I don't think many people realize what they are trading when the uses these services, although the cynic in me says that it wouldn't make any difference. I'm happy to hear you do know, it was comments about Intellectual Property and irreplaceable things that had me thinking otherwise. I have a tendency to get seriously annoyed about companies taking advantage of people like this. It kind of sets me off, and and I need far less of that in my life. I've got too many problems already. I generally keep my distance from them unless they have something I really need.

I did want to use Facebook once it get some info on some trans issues but they required an ID check, and I'm keeping my trans status hidden. There's no way I'm going to disclose it and my real identity to Facebook, and no way I can fight it since I'd lose the very thing I'm fighting for. Also, its kind of hopeless fighting companies like that. People win occasionally, but I seriously need less stress in my life. Those that fight the good fight though are helping the rest of us who won't. Not sure how I feel about that really.

As to doom and gloom, I think that what all of these companies are doing is exceptionally dangerous to our way of life. Democracy's not been around that long, and I can see it not lasting too much longer. The information and power these companies are accumulating would be very dangerous in the wrong hands, and historically there's never been any shortage of people wanting power over others. I'm feeling gloomy tonight - I probably shouldn't have commented here in the first place.

Super annoying. There was a guy in one of the FTM groups I'm a part of on there who had the same thing happen about a month ago (or a little longer). I think he just recently got it sorted out.

Santa Claus? What are you trying to say here?

The most radical, rebellious thing you can do in this situation, is to just walk away from Facebook.

Aww thanks! And well im so glad youve found that inner strength!!! as far as looking good, I think I did, this one guy (that i had known since childhood) walked up to me and said "dont tell anyone but you look better than my date"! I felt incredible and invincible that night. Despite the haters. And I was scared all the time but I would be damned if I let them see that. I had been trying to prove I wasn't afraid for years, why back down then? or as my little sister would say "dont get scared now!" lol
