Hello everyone! My name is Kat and I am so proud of my beautiful wife for having the strength and courage to tell me that she is transgender. I found this site while helping her look for trans resources in our area.
We have been together for 12 years, we finally married almost 2 years ago on Halloween, our favorite holiday! Since the beginning of our relationship, I have known that my Allie was special, at that time she was identifying as male and as a cross-dresser, which she was very open with me about from early on. This was never a problem for me, being the unabashed pan-sexual that I am, I very much enjoyed it! We have always had so much fun together picking out clothes and wigs and makeup, I can't imagine all that not being a part of our relationship.
When she told me that she is trans a few months ago, it just made sense, she always seemed so much more comfortable when she was "dressed up" as we called it. And she always lingered in that state, like it was painful to wipe off the makeup and put away her dress. I knew, but I didn't know, if that makes sense. And even though she knew I was supportive of the cross-dressing, she said it was still hard for her to tell me that she is trans, which makes me sad. But now I know and I am bursting with love and support! We have always been each-others best friend, we do everything together and so I plan to be right there by her side every step of the way! There isn't anything I wouldn't do for her.
In the past few months I have devoured any kind of information about trans issues that I can find. I finished Julia Serano's "Whipping Girl" in record time and am about to start on "Excluded." Also, we very much enjoyed the AOL originals series True Trans about Laura Jane Grace, of Against Me! Her story is amazing and not only is she such a beautiful person, she totally rocks too! We also had the privilege of attending a lecture by Laverne Cox at a local university, which was awesome! If there are any other books, sites, etc that we should delve into, please, please let me know!
So that is our story in a nut-shell (I tend to ramble, so I tried to keep it short and to the point). I am thrilled to be here and eager to support her and anyone who needs a friend!
With so much love,
-Kat
Also, a huge thanks to everyone who helps provide places like this site, as I think community is important and it's wonderful in the times that we live in that there is a global community to engage in since there are still so many places where trans people are being marginalized and discriminated against.
