If it means anything, facebook, like many other major websites, are attacked 24/7 by hackers, phishers, and account thefts. Everyone is right saying you pretty much have no rights on that site, outside of any financial transactions, but you are visiting someone else s "property". You might have to make a new account, but I hope your efforts workout for you.

PS: Love your profile pic  ;)

Why thank you YoungZep!! :D  I hope this can work out for all of us affected. I'm still fighting for it. And I dont see an end near! But fear not, I will not give up!

Hey now, all views and opinions are 100% welcome!! :) Im sorry if I came across a little rough.. Im just passionate about this and I cannot just roll over and be contempt. I know fighting this may be a lost cause, but maybe not!! I know where youre coming from, I have a lot of stress in my life as well, but if doing this gives me more then I will gladly take that weight, as I find it to be beyond worth it. I've spent the last 7 years of my life breaking down barriers and disarming prejudice, and this is the biggest battle yet. It feels like its my calling...
I deserved your response and I should have worded it more thoughtfully. In some ways its a little thing, but it has me worried about my mental state. I'm normally very careful what I say here, and I like my identity I choose to show only part of myself. Its not fake, but it is incomplete. I was having a bad day yesterday, only I didn't realize just how bad. Bad enough to slip anyway, and that's worrisome. This is nothing to do with your response, which was perfectly reasonable, and I did appreciate the subtly of it.

If you want to have a go a Facebook, the only thing that matters is money. Hit them where it hurts. Which probably means negative publicity in this case. I'm pretty sure they don't care about anything else. The certainly don't have morals or they would never have succeeded like they have.

I have mad respect for your honesty and transparency. You have a friend in me AnonyMs. If you ever wanna talk you know where to find me! I love random conversation and I like listening too :)

And oh yeah, I plan to hit Zuckerberg in his zucker so hard his pretty teeth will become my new rings!!-(Too dark? :) ) maybe hit up a news station, radio station, see if they would wanna report on the story. Moneys not too much of an issue for me (I definitely don't have FBs money) but my fiancee has a great job, plus having two BADDD (not to be messed with) lawyers here in KC helps (my family has hired them for years). Plus I know im not alone so the more ppl that join the fight the cheaper it becomes for all of us. And almost every lawyer that could be interested wont ask for money at the beginning. They'll fight for you and demand a percentage of the winnings.

I think you'd find it more effective to go for bad publicity. Find groups of people who are suffering because of Facebook, and which the general public would have sympathy for. I expect you'd lose the legal angle, as you don't have to use their services and you would have agreed to their terms when you signed up.

I don't see it as being about right and wrong. I believe that in a in a technical sense Facebook is in the right. Its their company, they can do whatever they want with it, and you can use another company if you don't like it. They are not a monopoly, where perhaps it might be different.

To take a simpler example, look at this site. Susan owns it and you can either stick to the rules, of which there are many, or get banned. Susan is abundantly clear about that. Is that wrong? Is it any different to Facebook even? I happen to like Susan's rules and morality a whole lot better than Facebook which is why I'm here and not there.

I'm actually quite interested if you can make an argument that its different, because to honest I don't see it and I'd like to see Facebook as being wrong. I'm not just stirring up an argument. I'm feeling much better today. Might have been low E for the last couple of days, at least I hope so because I know how to fix that.

Btw, my FB account has just been blocked too because of the 'fake name' thing. My alias was totally random (unconnected to my real name) and I am pre-everything and closeted, so I have no way out.
I just checked my 'real' FB account and they are not asking for any ID there, so this seems like they are specifically targeting certain accounts and not others. Or it could be because someone reported it.

I'm so sorry to hear about them targeting you too :( I can empathize with not being out and feeling trapped in such a situation but I assure you I will fight for all of us. when I got kicked im pretty sure that one of the passwords I tried was legit and they denied it anyway to put me through the hassle. So yeah, I'd say that we we're targeted. I'm contacting Harper Jean Tobin today. Not sure how the out of state lawyer thing works, maybe she has a license to practice in more places than D.C. But Ms. Tobin is said to be one of the best Trans attorneys in the country. Couldn't hurt to try right? I mean I understand why internet security is such an enormous issue. But when someone explains the ENTIRE situation, jumps through all the hoops and provides information nobody else would know then obviously that persons ownership of that acct should check out!! but they still have mine locked. Today my fiancee is writing The FaceF**k Team about my situation and how I am the true owner of that page. That way it just adds to my arsenal. Even if they give me back access I don't see them allowing me to use MY name. Regardless I'm still taking it to court, access or no access, for having put all of us through this garbage.

And I don't believe that it was reported. It was filtered out and attacked.

This is the email I just sent to Harper Tobin, feel free to let me know if I forgot anything or what your thoughts are --

Good afternoon,

As you may already be aware, Facebook is locking Trans, Genderqueer, and Non-binary people out of their accounts because their name doesn't match their I.D's. I have been affected by this personally, as have many of my friends. Over the last week I have exchanged numerous emails with The Facebook Team explaining my situation and jumping through hoops. I provided them with two copies of my license, personal information nobody can just find out, sent numerous pictures that weren't on my profile, and I've had my fiancee contact them to further explain my case. Today they finally allowed me back access but my dead name is all over the place now. Its incredibly embarrassing and demoralizing!!! I feel as if they are targeting these groups specifically as many of us who aren't openly out have two accounts, one with our legal name, one with our preferred name, and the legal name accounts aren't being attacked (strange isn't it?)  I understand the need for stronger internet security and I respect that they are so vigilant in doing so. But to 'out' people who don't wish to be out, to humiliate and destroy someone.. is just absurd and wrong! I plan to contact a few more lawyers today, however I figured you were our communities best hope to fighting this injustice. I want to take this to a court of law, as I feel so violated and attacked, and I know I am not even close to alone on this one. Please let me know if you will be so kind as to represent all of us in this fight with me. Here is my home number in case you wish to talk via phone- (816) 886-7102. I hope you have a blessed day Ms. Tobin. Thank you so much for your time, and all that you have done thus far to stand up for our communities.

Heres the automatic reply I got from Harper's office:

I will be out of the office on business and personal travel Tuesday, February 24 through Tuesday, March 10, and will have limited access to email and opportunity to respond.

Please contact the NCTE office at (202) 903-0112, or await my return.

I am sure it had nothing to do with forgetting my password - I clearly remember it. I was logged in, writing a message to someone, and the next thing I know is that I am redirected to the login screen, and after typing in my details, I am told that my account is locked. If I had not known that this had already been happening, I might have panicked.

Anyway, my main purpose to use FB through that account was to stay in touch with people from Susan's in case this site ever goes down again like it did a few weeks ago. I need this place to keep my sanity, and even a day of going without it and not knowing what was happening was enough to throw me off balance. I now have the direct email IDs of a couple of people here, so I don't need FB any more. I am also tired enough of FB generally that I hardly use it through my regular / older account.

Good to hear that you are fighting this out, though. I can only imagine how hard it would be if I were transitioning and were to be told by some idiot that I have to stick to my old name and not my new one. All the best in your fight, and though I am on the other side of the world, do let me know if you need any help.

Thank you very much Cindy! I truly appreciate it!!!! ;D Just a few more days until I should be hearing back from Ms. Tobin.

Alice (nym)

I am resurrecting this thread sorry... because FB is still doing this. I set up a new account using my new name and within hours it was locked. I contacted the My Name Is campaign. I then got access again, sent a couple of friend requests to people I met at the local trans group on Tuesday... and immediately got blocked again.

I know at this moment in time I don't look anything like an Alice (perhaps Cooper after all the sleepless nights I have had this last month, I've got the panda eyes)... but the only reason I am setting up a FB account is to access trans resources and help groups. I don't want the new friends I make to call me by the name I was given at birth... I want them to get to know the real me. Then later down the line when I am starting to look more like Alice, I will start posting photos of me. But right now, at the very start of this journey. Why would I set up an account with my male name only to have all this trouble when the time comes to officially change my name.

OK, so I apologize for resurrecting this thread... but I just wanted to point out that 3 years down the line and the same old same old prejudice from Facebook.

It's all very depressing

I wonder if it is prejudice or simply crappy algorithms that are constantly being refined to block out fake political and other troll accounts?

Whatever the reason I know it's not fun I'm sure.

Have you been able to get an email from an actual human on Facebook other than a form response? (i know not likely)

When I had two Facebook accounts for the same reason, I made sure to access them from different computers.  That way, they would not have the same address recorded for both accounts.  I kept the two accounts totally separate, never looking at one acccount from the other one.  I made sure they had no friends in common, and I refused friend requests from people I had already friended with the other account.

I kept the two accounts active for a year, until I was out publicly.  I then asked everyone on my second account to friend the first one, and suspended it.

You do have to be vigilant to ensure that FB doesn't detect the dual accounts.

Alice are you using same email account for Facebook? Google knows I have two .gmail accounts and nobody seems to mind. . .

Also use Chrome which saves log-in automatically. Heck the CIA, NSA, FBI and every other 3 letter dept knows what your doing so why should Facebook really care. Like Dawn says I see the friend suggestions cross both accounts would that be a problem for you?

ie: All my <malename> family/friends surely see my 'Kiera" account I just don't confirm requests. Notice nobbody in this thread has a FaceBook link am I the only crazy one? BTW I am 'out' but *COWARDLY* not 'socially transitioned'.
"But it's no use now," thought poor Alice, "to pretend be two people!
"Why, there's hardly enough of me left to make one respectable person!"
