I was married, had two young children, and an adoring wife. It tore me to pieces to come out and transition. But I made the right choice. She was young enough to get remarried and the kids had a wonderful dad. During my transition, my theme song was "A Man I'll Never Be" by Boston.  Here are the Lyrics:

Even though this song was recorded back when I was a teen I only heard it a couple years ago. It has helped me immeasurably in my motion toward and into transition.

the sheer enormity of that hit me like a ton of bricks. for a trans person, choosing a name might be the first real sign that you've realized and accepted what's going on with you, and it's a promise of what's to come. It's a promise that someday, that things will be better, that you can be yourself fully. It's a promise to live up to that name.

It's a promise I damn well intend to keep.

Thank you for sharing this. I had to move into solitude in the past couple years, to learn to love myself, to learn to be happy. It was a major part of my journey toward the ultimate goal of being able to love the world back.
