For most people I would guess that FFS is something you would only do once if at all. My problem at the moment is that I had mine done in June of last year but I am not sure that the work done was aggressive enough.

Don't get me wrong, my post-FFS face is a big improvement and has produced a very natural looking result. However, given a very masculine starting point this only puts me in a somewhat androgynous position now. I guess I'm one of the people that surgeons rarely show in their before and after results.

Sooooo, with much trepidation, I am now considering a second FFS with a different surgeon this summer. Still haven't finalised the list of work to be done yet, but pretty much everything is up for grabs apart from forehead work (I was happy with this bit  ). At the very least it would include redoing the original genioplasty, chin implants and possibly the rhinoplasty.

Just wondering if there are any other ladies out there who have been in the same position and opted to get their FFS redone? And in this case did they regret the decision or consider it well worth all the pain and expense?

Hello,
I had chin and forehead re-contouring and a rhinoplasty done last year under the public sector. I was very unhappy with the results, especially with my forehead. After trying to live with it for months I decided to have my forehead, brow and nose revised. I had surgery with Dr. Bart in late January and am now about 6 weeks post-op. I do not regret the decision, but the recovery has been difficult and I am not sure yet if it was worth it, so to speak.

Thanks Mary. Sorry to hear you are having a tough time recovering from the op and wishing you a speedy recovery. Do you think having a previous FFS has contributed to the recovery difficulties this time?

I must admit to being a bit concerned having procedures redone as the whole thing sounds more invasive. For example, because I have less cheek filler on one side, the other [good] side needs to be ground away before adding two new medpor implants. Plus there is all the metalwork associated with the old genioplasty that needs to be removed.

Thank you for the well wishes.  My secondary surgery was significantly more aggressive than my primary operation. So, that us probably the nain reason the recovery has been so much more difficult. I've also had some complications. Unlike you though, there was nothing that had to be undone first.  From the sound of it, your secondary operation will be quite intense. I would akso be a little nervous.  That said, if like me, the idea of leaving it as is is just impossible,  it might be worth it.

My first FFS was done in order to feminize and to look like a totally new person. I achieved feminine looks and none recognized me but somethings just didn't look natural. I went for a touch up with another doctor who harmonized my face and I am super happy with the results now.

Hmmm, yes I know the feeling. Sometimes I think I can live with it and get on with the post-FFS cosmetic surgery I need. However, it's just like a constantly dripping tap that wears you down over time.

Wow - that's amazing. Post-FFS and no one who knows me has realised I've even had surgery! The only comments I've had are: "have you lost weight?", "you look well" and "you look younger". This despite the fact that pre-FFS I had 100% male features but from some angles I now get gendered female. I suppose it's good that the surgeon achieved a natural look but sometimes I wish I could have had a more dramatic change like you and become unmistakable female to those who know me. Sigh. So good to hear though that you are now happy with the results after getting more work done.

That sounds pretty terrible what you've been going through. Really hope the third FFS out works for you. Know what you mean about the smiling bit - still struggle with that and laughing after my lip-lift 4 months ago. These are things they don't tell you beforehand. Just wonder what percentage of girls who've had FFS are full satisfied with the results. Certainly no guarantees that everything will always turn out as you expect. 

Could you tell me a few more details about the second FFS op.
- What problems was it addressing from the first op?
- Were there any positives that came out of the revisions?
- Was the recovery more difficult because of re-doing previous work e.g. removal of old metalwork or grinding down cheek augmentations?
- Are there any revisions you would avoid doing now?
- Who is doing your third FFS?

The second FFS was performed by Dr Rossi in Argentina. He performed a minor miracle on my face, after the disaster of the first FFS, which was done in Mexico. I will be going back to Argentina and Dr Rossi for the revisions and further work, as soon as they give me the go ahead. Its really weird, the work he has done is fantastic, but it seems, and looks like, that he forgot to do one side of the bone work on my nose. Apart from that, brilliant. The recovery seemed to be quicker and less painful, maybe just the bruising stayed a little bit longer. I didnt have cheek augmentation, but I did have a really badly and oddly shaped chin after the first FFS, it looks great now, but still too big for my liking, so when I go back I will be asking Dr Rossi to shorten it to its anatomical limit. My nose [which, after the Mexican surgeon finished with, seemed to be exactly the same], Dr Rossi did make it look so much better [apart from that one side]. I am still waiting for swelling to go from the tip. The forehead again was hardly touched in the first FFS because the Mexican surgeon said that I didnt need a type 3, when I clearly did. He also didnt touch my orbital rims, which I had paid him to do. Basically its as if he took my money and then did as little as possible [ I also paid him for a sliding genioplasty, which again he didnt do ] and what he did do, he did poorly. Dr Rossi did an unbelievably fantastic type 3 forehead reconstruction, and a good job on my orbital rims, and now that whole area looks as feminine as it possibly could.
I will probably have to pay for everything apart from my nose again, but I accept and acknowledge that Dr Rossi has done a fantastic job, and if I do have to pay for my nose again, well I guess I dont mind because Dr Rossi still put a lot of time and effort in to it.
Really, everything should have been done properly in the first surgery, I mean I certainly paid enough. No one should have to go through this more than once, not in these modern and medically advanced times.
Looking back, and with what I have learnt subsequently, and with all the money that I am going to end up spending on my face, I would of done things a lot differently. I am of the conclusion that having surgery in Latin America is very hit and miss. Really there are only a few places in the world who have the surgeons, facilities, and modern day technology and techniques, that could make for a virtually guaranteed one time only visit. Now I just shrug my shoulders and have to accept what has happened.
If you want to know who my first surgeon was, then you will have to visit the tgboards site, as I am not allowed to "name and shame" the Mexican surgeon, on this site. You could then also tell me who your surgeon was, and we could chat more openly and freely. 

Firestarter - thank you so much for sharing all this detailed information. Your story sounds much worse than mine and my heart goes out to you for the suffering you have had to endure. I can understand why you had no choice but to go for a second FFS. Yours sounds like it was both botched and skimped. So pleased that you have at least found a good surgeon now who is able to get the FFS done properly. I can guess who the previous surgeon was.

In my case the surgeon was just not as aggressive as I would have liked in the mid-face and chin area. The vital Type III forehead work and orbital rim shave was done very well. As a result I am still in two minds as to whether I am being overly sensitive in wanting the best possible result rather than settle for something that allows me to pass most of the time. It helps to know that there are others out there who have braved the ordeal of FFS again and not regretted the decision.

Not sure whether you are asking me about my surgeon or Firestarter about hers?

If it's my surgeon then I would still be happy to recommend him to anyone for FFS. There were particular circumstances in my case that may have influenced him to be less aggressive than I would have wanted. I'm still consulting with him over possible revisions for some areas as well as discussing having more work done with a different surgeon.

If it's Firestarter's surgeon then I'll leave her to answer that either by PM or some other means if you're not sure who she's talking about.

When I posted this, I was a little unclear on a couple of points, and now I have upset someone very special. So I am writing this message to apologise to her, to Dr Rossi, and his whole team, to try and put things right. I will also be writing this message in a new thread, simply titled "My apology to T.Change".

Secondly, Dr Rossi spent hours trying, and succeeding in improving the look of my nose. I was an amateur and professional boxer for 25 years, and my face was a mess, especially my nose. When I wrote " Its really weird, the work he has done is fantastic, but it seems, and looks like, that he forgot to do one side of the bone work on my nose. Apart from that, brilliant." I was trying to say it still needs more work, which it does. I will only allow Dr Rossi to do this surgery as I believe and trust in him, and his team. Please be in no doubt that I am completely, and extremely happy with the work and effort that Dr Rossi and his brilliant team performed. I apologise to, Dr Rossi, Amanda, and his whole team, for any poorly chosen words that I wrote....... I am so, so sorry. You all deserve, and have, my admiration, respect, and love.

I would not rule out the surgeon I had. He is one of the best in my opinion. I think there are inherent difficulties feminising some faces that start very masculine and have asymmetry. I have seen plenty of results from surgeons where the result is better but still more male that female. Before the FFS I was struggling to see how he would be able to achieve any ability to pass. But he did achieve that to some degree. We just have a difference of opinion now on whether some of the procedures could be taken further with a more aggressive treatment. Who knows perhaps he is right. That is why I have had some X-rays done and am consulting with other surgeons to get their opinions. I hoping to get their feedback in the next week or two.
