Anyone around play or build 40K?

I build and paint the models and play pretty competitively, as well as run my LHS tournaments.

I have some 40k, but really I'm more into warhammer fantasy. Play chaos and elves I'm both :)

Stupid games workshop, stupid sales policies, urge to kill rising, rising..exc.

So ya lets see something like 5-7000 points of blood angels and around 4-5K Thousand Sons. actual thousand sons the unloved always ignored child of 40k. I haven't played in years, the company just swings back and forth between well written rules+terrible player support and good support but awful rules. Plus I am terrible at painting.

I have also always wanted to get into fantasy but could never decide between vampire counts, and wood elves plus money seems to be tight whenever i am interested.

unfortuneatly fantasy may get cancled soon and 40k is just getting weird.

Fantasy isn't getting canceled so much as "retooled." Undead would be safe for the new version based on what I've heard, but wood elves have pretty much been merged into the combined elf faction.

With khorne daemonkin, I'm hopeful the other three chaos gods get their own mini dex

Me too! My first army was Chaos and I fell in love with Slaanesh and Tzeentch, but fell out of love with the 4th and 6th ed codecies and now pretty much play Dark Eldar exclusively.

But if they come out with a mini dex for each Chaos God that would be so great for Chaos.

Also I will agree that GW tends to make some awesome choices, and then shortly after some very poor choices, it's quite odd how inconsistent they are haha.

I built a tomb kings army, hated fantasy and now it all sits in a paper bag in my closet. Lol

I started playing Warhammer Fantasy when my two children were pre-teens because they were into it and it was a good way to have quality time with them when they were visiting me in the holidays.  I played High Elves mainly, but also had a Goblin army and a Halflings army.  The High Elf province I based my army on was Avelorn and it had quite a lot of Wood Elf elements about it.
My children's favourite trick was to borrow my Goblin army and utterly paste my High Elves with it.  For some reason they could play the Goblin approach to war much better than I could, but I got my own back when my Halflings defeated their Dark Elves which was something my son and daughter thought was impossible.
We stuck to 5th Edition rules because we couldn't be bothered changing when 6th Edition came along and I picked up a potentially brilliant mostly metal Bretonnian army for cheap on clearance when 5th Edition became history.  I still have it with everything still sealed up in their packs.  I should really sell it I suppose.

Eventually my son and daughter grew up and lost interest in Warhammer leaving me still keen to play, but with nobody to play against.  I tried going to a wargaming club for a while, but it was very much a guys' club and I think I made them nervous so in the end I flagged it away.
After that I mostly collected and painted filling up the ranks of my High Elf and Goblin armies with OOP metal miniature figures.  Did you know that the old pre-slotta metal trolls are anatomically correct?  Yes they are and the guys at the local Games Workshop store I used to go to didn't know that either until I showed them some of my collection of early Warhammer and Citadel miniatures.

When Mantic Games came out with their 'Kings of War' fantasy rule system I thought about starting to play again as the Mantic rules welcome miniature figures by other makers.  That carries over into their official tournaments too which is a big change from the Games Workshop stance on other makes.  I once took some Ral Partha High Elves into the local Games Workshop store and you would have thought that I'd committed a shockingly unholy act going by the reception I got.
However I was back with the whole nobody wanting to play with me thing so all my miniature armies have been packed away in storage crates and I suppose I'll sell them eventually.

I did try 40k briefly and started to put together an Imperial Guard Tallarn army, but I didn't really like it as I don't like playing any kind of 'modern' warfare games anyway.

That's a great story Lady Smith! Wish I knew more trans gamers un my area (Arizona) to meet up and game. It's a shame that some people get so uncomfortable around us. You'd think our fellow nerdkin\geeks would understand how it is to be different. Oh well, that will (hopefully) change, even if slowly.

I had a small 1500 point game with my warriors of chaos vs. Undead legions that came down to the final combat. I was loosing when my battle standard bearer won a challenge and rolled box cars on the eye of the gods table, becoming a daemon prince of khorne. He had already gotten a few eye of the gods rolls and was extra powerful, and proceded to slaughter a unit of ghouls, grave guard and zombies in a three way combat before taking out a terrorgeist :)

It ended in a tie, with only a few models left on the board, but we both agreed for a small game it was EPIC! (Even more so because my friends vampire got sucked into the warp lol)

The acceptance of gamers is a important subject for me, I have been a fixture at my local game store sense the week after it opened more than 10 years ago, I play and run several games every week and work there part time. So clearly I am well known at the store and my transition hopefully later this year will be public knowledge. One of the first people I came out to shortly before starting hrt was the store owner, who is a friend and he was very positive about it, promised what support he could and told me it would not effect me working there.

That said I expect to encounter some difficulty with the many people who I am familiar with but who I wouldn't call a friend. Knowing this will not be stealth I talked with the guy who runs the stores website and offered to do a interview/article about transitioning in a gaming community, which he seemed excited about when we talked about it. When/if the article is posted I will be sure to link it here.

Wow! an epic game indeed valkiacrimson.  Any pictures?

I must admit that the Games Workshop store I used to go to never had a problem with me being TG either Valwen .  The owner was a very skilled painter and also played High Elves so he was always interested in my own Elves and some of the conversions I'd done.  I was pretty seriously into Avelorn province High Elves at the time and had the 'Eye of Isha' tattooed on my left arm.  It's always a good talking point these days whenever I need to have an injection done down at the local medical centre.

Unfortunately the store was too far away from home to take part in games so I missed out there and apart from one really great game I had with a Goth guy at the club near home I went to for a short while, 2000pts High Elves vs UnDead, I didn't have much luck with finding anyone to play against.

When fantasy wargaming miniatures started to become seriously expensive I did experiment with printed 2D light cardboard figures and I still own a 3000pt Silk Road themed High Elf army based on my own artwork that's entirely made of printed card.  The price is certainly right and for anyone who wants to try out a different type of army to what they usually play it's a quick way to get an army onto the table.
I have an Elf army composed entirely of Lego Minifigs too which was a lot of fun and was still cheaper to put together than buying Games Workshop figures.

Yes please do post that article here Serena  :)

Once upon a time I collected nothing but Terminators. Didn't matter which chapter, good or bad, I thought they were the most badass ever. I just painted them.  My passion was Heavy Gear. Anime inspired mechs. they were awesome. from the Kodiak to the Mammoth Strider, I built them all.

But, This was my Chapter. :D

Yet in the end, you couldn't make it go away. Others could rely on you, but you couldn't rely on them."

Used to play until my dad got into warmachine, it was loads of fun though it's cool to see girls playing :)

Unfortunately no pics of that particular battle, but maybe ill start posting some pics from my collection of completed models. My warriors/beastmen are almost all painted except for a few new things that I'm currently working on.

My high elves are only partially painted, but I plan on tackling them next.

My force specifically hails from Chrace, but I do have a bit of Avalorn and Saphery too

As far as my CSM go, my theme is Fallen Dark Angels, so lots of chaos bikers and Termies when I get around to them :)

ohh warmachine back when it was new I signed up for there forums, posted a few times about role play potential and  a few other things then I posted in a topic about page 7 (or whatever the page number was) the page where they talk about how you need big brass balls to play this game and its a mans mans game exc.

The thread was mostly collage guys slapping each other on the backs about how awesome that page was and I Just innocently pointed out how easily that page could turn away a female gamer who might otherwise be interested as the overly macho men only language could make many women myself included uncomfortable.

one post perhaps a whole paragraph and they assaulted me, threats, screaming, sexual violence, you name it. It was the one and only time I ever unsubscribed to a message board. I sent the moderator of the boards a private message asking to be unsubscribed, explaining why and telling him that, that view is going to do nothing good for the game.

Ohh I also posted about how terrible the druidic circle prestige class in there original rpg was awful, taking it actually made you worse at being a druid.

Yeah, some of the guys are horrible and I fear that the reason I never meet girl gamers(on the ps4) is because they have this bad image projected onto them that they have to fit a certain mold to be a gamer and a lot of times they are told that mold includes being male
  •

Valwen

I have met a number of girls online playing games that won't use voice chat and play male toons just to avoid abuse.

Yeah, God forbid "girl" be their name tag because they're either trash talked and put down or sexually harassed, my ex girlfriend did that and they just flock and swarm. It's horrible if she says one word and they notice "hey, it's a girl" immediate ->-bleeped-<- or immediate "how big are your boobs?" And friend requests :(
  •

The trouble is a lot of guy gamers have never actually spoken to a living breathing girl before so they don't know how to behave.
