@ Bleeps and Bloops... In general you don't have a bad starting point to begin with. Many other start from much less ideal situation. I don't see anything that extremly problematic about your body, as you make it sound. Yes, most of us don't have the petite tiny ribcage, and majority have little broader shoulders than it would be ideal. Finding a way around those things you can't change, is the key. And focusing on things you can do to make yourself feel better.
About your chin and jaw and nose and nose and unideal brow area... have you heard about facial feminization surgery? While it's not magic, the results can be pretty magical......

and what the **** is wrong with your hair? It looks really dense. Long and dense hair is like the most amazing thing!! :)

Bleeps, I think you're being too hard on yourself.  Yes, you'll probably never be petite, but you have a great starting point.  You actually have very striking features and you have great hair.  I'm jealous of that hair!  [emoji5] [emoji5]

Thanks, I guess, but did neither of you see my pic in guy-mode? My actual hair is some of the most masculine I've ever seen. Obviously I've heard of ffs though but it's way way way way way far down the road.

In fact I was only really looking at your guy-mode picture. I don't care much about make-up, good angles, ideal lightning, wigs...

What does masculine hair look like.. because I really don't know? One thing that hormones do is a change in hair texture, it becomes softer and finer, and overall quality of hair improves...

It's very coarse and thick and it grows straight up. Seriously, even if I try to get it to go down it goes straight up again. It's gets very thick on the sides and in the back and curls and looks ridiculous. Again, straightening it doesn't really change this and it's so dense the hairs on top are forced upwards. I don't see it having the capacity to fall like female hair does and it getting longer just turns it more and more into an unmanageable afro. Also I feel bad if that's the only perception you have of my male face because, like I said, that's not a very nice pic of me.

I understand that you don't like that picture... I didn't like any of my guy-mode pictures either. I have learned a thing or two about facial features in the past few years, and like I said you don't have a bad starting point. Yes you have a masculine aspect in some of your features (some of that gets softened with time on hormones, and some can be altered surgically). But despite that you have overall really pretty face, believe me or not. With a couple years on hormones and smartly approached FFS you would look amazing. I hope this in anyway helps to answer "could I pass" question...

I was 21 and extremly dysphoric and really miserable and afraid I would never be really able to "pass", and I could find countless reasons for why I would never be really "passable", so much so that I was blind for all the positive things about my body and face that I should be really looking at... I'm 28 now and I look unclockable even without make-up on a bad hair day, despite being 6feet tall. If only I could knew this would be possible when I was 21...

Well I'm in a very bad spot right now in terms of hope. You keep giving me ffs as a condition, do you not think I could pass at all without it? I don't have any kind of career or skill in the works so I don't know when that'll be possible even though I'm sure I'll eventually get it at least for my nose. I honestly don't think my chin or jaw is really THAT bad, and my brow area is crappy but can be minimized, (plus I've noticed almost every trans woman has a kind of weird brow bone / buldge if you really look and they pass fine)

mmmmm

As I said I honestly think you have a better starting point than many... and many become really passable without any surgical work... learning to master make-up in a way that works great for them, and finding a haircut that works the best for their hairtype and in relation to face, and learn to use many other things that add to their visual presentation. Some cis women also have some masculine features on their face and they pass just fine, so it's not just about facial features.
I didn't mean ffs as a condition... but I know what it can do, and what a change it can be...
Many trans women get that weird brow bone bulge removed, plus that allows to remodel the orbital rims, which is the thing that shifts facial expression from masculine to feminine.

If you have an option to see gender therapist, I really think you should discuss your situation and feelings with someone specialized and experienced in work with transsexual people.

I have an appointment I set up a couple months back for informed consent because I've been battling with this so long I know I want to be on hrt. Lots of people have said I really need to talk to someone and I feel I do too. Idk what informed consent is like, but if I can get a letter to start HRT I'd like to find a therapist I could talk with anyway. I just didn't want to have to go through the process of having to put so many hours in and spend a lot of money to convince someone else of my transness. I'm very insecure about the future though. I know there's a lot of things I need to work through

There's really nothing angular or strong-looking about your face at all so I'd say your chances are incredible

Thank you so much Bleeps. I have never really had angles to my face even when I was younger. ^_^

You definitely have a lot of potential, I can't wait to see what hormones do for you as they soften your face up even more. The makeup definitely adds a nice feminine touch that really helps soften your face. Hugs
Mariah

I am so glad to hear. I honestly was really afraid that I would not have any potential at all. I cannot wait to start hormones, I think so much will change.

@ Bleeps and Bloops

I can see you transitioning well as you have a really good facial structure and a proportionate body... Starting on HRT should help your shoulders and chest(rib area) thin out as your breast start to develop and make your facial features will become softer and more feminine.  If you have thick hair all the better just let it grow out and its own weight will make it lay over (thick hair is so much better then thin hair trust me).  we all have little things that we would change about ourselves and at some point you may go get them changes if that's what you feel you want but I really feel your in a good starting point (I'm a little jealous lol)

@ Bleeps and Bloops I honestly think you will do fine you actually look like a cis friend of mine with your eye makeup like that, and you have a better starting point than most which includes myself.  You have a great smile with formed lips and your nose is not large and if you feel it is I advise you look at learning to contour it is like magic for your face.  I dont think you need FFS I wouldn't even think of it until you have been on HRT for a while then make a fresh unbiased look at yourself.  As for your arms and ribcage I used to work as a butcher so I was and still am bulky across my shoulders and arms but with time the muscle shrinks the ribs not so much, but you can do feminizing exercises to work on enhancing the other areas such as hips and butt etc.  Your young and have heaps of time, with your hair have you tried growing it out? mine stands on end but as it gets heavy from length it sits and flows down but like everyone you still get bad hair days.

All the best

idk my hair is so thick and dense that it just kind of piles together and looks weirdly big whenever it's straightened. I haven't ever tried growing it out over a tremendous amount of time, however, so maybe I should just keep letting it grow over several months - a year+? I'm not sure if that would make it look acceptable or not. As I said, it is VERY coarse and thick.

well thanks. I'm glad you guys see so much potential in me. I've been having such a hard to time looking at and judging myself. Recently I've basically lost hope in ever transitioning successfully and I all I ever do is remind myself of how ugly and masculine I am. It's really hurt my ability to see anything positive about myself

I always feel frustrated when I see girls complain about not having straight Caucasian hair. You know, thick, wavy or curly hair can be gorgeous. Is the process for growing it out difficult at first? It definitely can be. Wavy hair will normally 'fall' relatively early on into the growing process, whereas curly hair will initially grow upwards, then, after a while, will become heavy enough to 'fall' and continue growing downwards. I know this because I have corkscrew curls. At first, I had to deal with an afro. But you know what? I sucked it up, learnt how to deal with my hair properly, and now it grows downwards. It took about a year, but I'm so glad I didn't give up, and despite the difficulty with management curly hair can present, I'm not jealous of people with straight hair one bit on my good hair days. You know many girls would kill for thicker, curlier hair? We always seem to want what we don't have, without realising the potential in what we already possess.

Straightening wavy or curly hair damages it. If you want to straighten it, that's your choice, but if you do it too often you will likely regret it once your hair gets longer because you will have a lot of damaged hair to deal with. What you need to do is keep your ends from being dry, since curly hair tends to be a lot drier than straight hair, and you need to learn how often to shampoo and condition your hair; straight hair can be shampooed as often as each day, but this will usually be a frizz-making disaster for curls. Do what you want with your hair, but don't assume you must straighten it or that thick hair cannot be feminine; that is an absurd, if not offensive, statement I have heard far too many times and that I myself had to overcome in order to come to love my own hair.

Also, you look like you have a lot of potential, honestly, especially when you put on that wig. Give HRT and your hair time, and you will likely turn out just fine. You're in a much more privileged starting point than some people.
"The time will come / when, with elation / you will greet yourself arriving / at your own door, in your own mirror / and each will smile at the other's welcome, / and say, sit here. Eat. / You will love again the stranger who was your self./ Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart / to itself, to the stranger who has loved you / all your life, whom you ignored" - Walcott, "Love after Love"

Thank you, but I didn't mean to make any kind of statement about any hair type, just that I thought my hair was particularly difficult to deal with. It's not curly really on top it's just the sides and at the back where it curls up and is really determined to stay that way. Maybe it could change with some growth but idk. I'm definitely going to try based on what other people are saying in this thread.
