What a Sissy!!  that intended insult was often a mixed bag for me.  The answer in my heart was YES! but before accepting myself I was too ready to deny and respond with anger.

If you are transitioning now, or beyond all that, how does that five letter word feel to you now??

I own it and think to myself, "well duh, of course I am a sissy girl, but don't push me to show you how butch I can be either!!  You might not like my bite."

You??

Yes, I'm a total sissy. I'm pretty much the opposite of tough, but I don't really like that it's a value judgment. You can be a sissy and a wonderful person, so I'm troubled by the extent that it's considered an insult.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

And you're totally a great sister to us Suzi!  Yes the value added aspect, hmmm.  I wonder if it is not going to be like the term Queer....now back by popular demand and ownership;-)

Huh, coordination?  And then i do recall those special playground remarks for "throwing like a sissy girl"  Who wants to catch footballs anyway? ;D

Intentional hurting is a concern tho.....

Nope - big bad bold brave practical and down to earth pragmatist... I might even have made a halfway decent male if it hadn't been for the intense dislike of the bodily attributes which that state required.

Then again I do also have a strong soft and empathetic nurturing side... so all in all I'm more of a strong heroine/wise woman/earth mother than any sort of sissy.

( "Sissy" by the way seems to me just as much an insult for a woman as it would be for a man! Anyone who had said that of me in the past undoubtedly would only have lived just long enough to fully regret their error ;) )

I am like a M&M. tough on the outside and sissy on the inside.

One of my sisters correctly took me to task when I said "i throw like a girl"  She reminded me of some young superstar girls who can throw a baseball like 100 mph.  RJ I want you by my side for some of those darker alleys.

I think I was called that a good deal.

I learned to not be one. I could throw a football, baseball any of those spheroid things. But I was never a star.

Deep down I liked the idea but hated the feelings it brought up. Kind of like Dena, I had a tough as nails exterior for years(considered cold and uncaring). However, I find when I do cry, it is about people or stories I don't know. I think that is just conditioning.

I don't think I will ever be a frilly girl. However, I hope to be a pragmatic girl who loves to coordinate and some day may grow to become a woman. Considering my age that is a ridiculous thing to write but I think it is accurate.

So, long answer is yes, I was. Deep inside I am but I don't know if any will ever see me as such.

With warmth,

Joanna

I was never called a sissy but I wouldn't have minded, inwardly at least. I suppose it is one of those derogatory words we get to own should we want it. Queer has more power to my mind. As to weather I am a sissy...yeah a bit. I will always have that badass tomboy side that doesn't mind dirt and cuts but I get a bunch of those cuts from plain awkward clumsiness. So I guess I am on the sissy side of the tomboy spectrum.

Also, has anyone else heard the word sissy used to refer to pee? As in "Mommy, hurry up and open the door, I need to make sissy!"

Oh Joanna, there is nothing at all ridiculous about our shared aspirations regardless of age.  I respect your self talk but consider myself a 64 yo girl as the term that best embodies our growth as women.  Warm hugs back at ya.
