I'm someone who is Bruce Willis bald. With that said, are there women here who wear a wig every day, day in and day out? Do you like it? Does it feel normal? Does it pass for real hair? I'm considering transitioning and this is a big one for me. I want to know how do you make it feel normal?

That would be me. Despite general physical ineptness, I have no trouble putting on a wig in such a way that it passes for real hair. A lot of people don't even know (though they know I'm trans).

Yes, I would prefer my own hair, but not at the cost of banging on the doors of the medical community in the feeble hope they can restore my lost hair. I do wear hats and my own hair when I have to be outdoors for any length of time.

Is it hot? Uncomfortable? I have no idea so I'm asking.

Uncomfortable? no. Hot? I'm tall and thin so I'm almost never hot. It keeps me a bit warmer, especially during the winter, so if you're someone who gets hot easily, that's something to be aware of.

I feel for you.  My hairline is starting to look like Hugo Weaving -- when he played Agent Smith in "The Matrix," not when he was in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."  I am starting to look at partial wigs, falls, any help I can get.

With the right wig it can pass for real hair.  it's not hot or uncomfortable at all. I use a wig everyday and don't have any issues. Good luck and Hugs

Me..umm..male pattern baldness came on at an early age. Think Mr. Clean (actually my male nickname)
So right along with seeking HRT, I am seeking good quality wigs, sassy turbans and hair systems (which I've just recently heard about. So you are definitely not alone :)

I've been on the Prime Candidate list of "The Hair Club for Men" since about 16 y/o. A wig always has been my only option.

I think the "Hot" label comes about from people who already have a full head of hair. Sure, there are times my head sweats more in a wig (I'm part-time) but... I have absolutely no frame of reference beyond girl friends with hair always complaining about how hot their heads were. (ever wonder why chip clips as so popular in the summer?) So... I figure I can rule out "Wig" as the reason, it is simply hair.

It is certainly not uncomfortable. That is if you discount the part about yanking off the wig tape. Again, only option for it to always stay in place on my head. I don't use it all the time.

Looks.... like everything in life, you get what you pay for. Though it is not an absolute rule. Ultimately anything short of human hair will not pass as real. Synthetic hair feels and acts differently then real. But real hair is way out of my price range, too much of an extravagance for my circumstances

if my hair were gray and i grew it out i might resemble Patrick Stewart.  I keep my head shaved, so obviously my only way to have decent hair is with a wig.  It can be a you get what you pay for scenario for sure

Wigs certainly can be hot and uncomfortable, but there are things you can do. And yes, wigs can look quite unconvincing but I've run into women as bald as you who look like absolutely gorgeous in their excellent wigs. Just know that unless you have really bad eyesight or low personal standards it will probably be a time consuming and expensive process to end up with a wig you're satisfied with. It's just another obstacle to overcome, though.

There are a couple of good forums on the web for women with hair loss. I've learned more useful info on wigs from these than pretty much anyplace else. One is heralopecia.com and the other is wigsupport.com. There are also a lot of good threads here at Susan's with tips on on wigs, too, if you look around.

I've owned quite a few wigs, though I've never started wearing them all the time. I'm pretty sure I will in the not too distant future, though. Wig comfort can be trade-off. Weft-sided wigs are cooler to the scalp, but don't allow the styling options lace or silk cap wigs do. I far prefer human hair wigs, but they are more difficult to maintain than synthetic, so many prefer synthetics. Human hair wig prices run quite a range, but I've found the cheaper ones don't tend to last very long (sometimes until you wash it the first time). Anyway, good luck.
