Areola Choice: Circular or Oblong?

Hi guys, so I just had my pre-op, and it basically went like everyone described. My mom went with me, which was great for her, I feel like meeting the surgeon alleviated a lot of her fears. But I digress. At the pre-op, my surgeon said I would have a choice in areola shape, which I didn't know would be a choice I had. Thoughts on the advantages or aesthetic preferences of different types, is there are any? I'd love to hear your thoughts, as I make my choice (I have until Monday). Personal experiences are cool too, if you've been given one other the other.

I didn't know that was a thing you could choose to be honest. My areolas weren't very large before hand, and I think my surgeon barley just trimmed the edges up on them. My right one is more circular now than my left one, as it's kinda stretched to a slight oblong shape. Not too much, but definitely more than the other side. I personally favor my right one (the circular one), I think it looks more aesthetic.

Mine are oblong and like slanted. I actually like this shape more than the circular ones. I think it depends on your body shape and all that. You could always take a marker and test out different shapes and see which one you like best :), Goodluck Monday!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

Also oblong and slightly slanted here (see most recent pics in the Top Surgery results thread), and I love mine. The only direction I gave my surgeon was that I wanted something closer in size to a nickle than a quarter. I've been told that pre-op mine were average sized, but I always saw them as too big and wanted them to be as small as possible.

I think the shape and position of mine are appropriate for my body type. I'm really broad shouldered and thicker through the torso, and I don't know that circles would've looked entirely right on me. I second the idea of drawing some lines and playing around with it this weekend.

Also - good luck next week!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, everyone! I like the idea of drawing on different shapes, maybe I'll take it one step further and photoshop some different chest appearances on a 'before' pic. Digital art is definitely my passion, so it should be fun! Oh and thanks for the well wishes, I'm super excited.  ;D

Like the others, I have never heard of this question.

I have heard trans men lament the fact that although we are giving circular areolas (like natal males), due to natural stretching of skin and such, they end up slanting.  I have heard of attempts at cutting the areola differently so that the stretching results in a circular shape developing instead of the oblong product we end up with.

My point is, I think that it will come out oblong no matter what.  I personally would be concerned about starting out with oblong if that is not the standard surgical approach.  Of course, I am curious to know the name of your surgeon and also ask you if they have done many top surgeries?

Anyway, mine are oblong like the others, started out circular, and I am happy with them.  Garramone does the size of a dime, not a nickel (standard in the surgical community), which I prefer.

I bet no matter what you choose, you will be happy with your chest in the end.  It is hard not to be after what we started out with!

I am leaning more toward circular at this point, very much for the reason you have outlined, with stretching turning even the round ones oblong. No point starting out oblong if they're going to be more so in the end. Also my surgeon will be Dr. Jennifer Murphy, and she assured me she has done top surgery with fair regularity since kaiser started offering it in Oregon (which has been a while), and I liked the results she showed me. There's not much information on her online, but I know there are other Oregonians on here and other sites that are curious about her work, so I'll be looking forward to giving her some online publicity.
