I have seriously considered that Sherri Shepherd was hired precisely to show people how much of a joke people with certain beliefs can be. or, as an equal opportunity kind of thing.
Some day, flat earthers will need equal opportunity laws in order to ensure they are hired in the future because, if you are running a serious business, are you going to want to hire someone like that? I just heard of a creationist suing a research lab for firing him when they discovered he didn't believe in evolution. This could be a trend where flat earthers are becoming the next minority in need of protection.
What if the research company was working on gene therapy or something? the guy's belief's might affect how he does his job, or he might even hamper the research in order to prevent something he believes is wrong. Companies will not want to hire employees whose beliefs are actually antithetical to the work they are doing. There will be a segment of the population that will be unemployable even though they have graduated from college.
** I am just making suppositions and am not saying that people with different beliefs are bad.
My theory is that as society progresses, flat earthers may find themselves left behind. In anticipation of the future need for affirmative action on behalf of people such as Sherri Shepherd, the producers of The View have hired one in order to show their sensitivity to this new group of minorities.
