I have surgery in 3 days. My throat has been a little sore, but I just woke up and it hurts to even swallow. I looked at my throat and I have white spots on my tonsils. I'm scared I have strep and that it will affect my ability to have surgery. I am Seriously freaking out right now..

Sheesh. That is just not fair! However...

Get thee to urgent care and get on antibiotics right away. After that, assuming the doc you see does diagnose strep throat (there's a "rapid test" they can do), contact your surgeon's office. It sucks, but your surgery probably will have to be postponed. The strep infection not only increases your risk of infection at the surgical site, it also increases your risk of complications with anesthesia.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, because of how much you want to have the surgery -- but you also really, really want a good outcome! Don't do anything to jeopardize that, even if it means putting it off. To put it in perspective, we're talking about the rest of your life here...

And you might want to give your therapist a call. It would make sense that you'd need some extra support to deal with a setback like this.

take vitamin c and gargle with warm salt water. i also recommend going to urgent care to get started on something as soon as possible. you might want to give the nurses a call; they were really helpful with me. 

Oh dude that's the worst. Do exactly what Tysilio recommends - get to urgent care ASAP so you can get on antibiotics. Start taking them as soon as you can. Get in touch with Medalie's office and let them know what's up. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has popped up for them. Maybe they can look a few weeks out on the list and see if anyone is willing to swap dates with you.

Hey everyone thank you for all the advice. I drank a lot of tea, ate a lot of chicken noodle soup, and also got a few cold-pressed juices and everything got better rather than worse so I skipped the doctor and went ahead with surgery as planned. Everything is going great! I think it was just a minor head cold from making out a ton with my new girlfriend lol.
