I'm sorry to say, but that information is wrong. Okay for starters, as for national guard, seeing as its pretty much the same as reservists (and I've been in 8 years) depending on the deployment cycle, you either have one weekend a month, or an extended weekend a month(Thursday through Sunday, generally the first weekend of the month) as well as two weeks to two months worth of annual training (generally in the summer)
With the national guard, yes you do get to choose your job, within limitation of your asvab scores and what is available for reserve in your region. Generally your main unit is anywhere between 10 miles to 200 miles from where you live.
They do and they don't pay for school. You will be eligible for GI Bill benefits after two years of serving, BUT you will most likely get to only use chapter 1606 which will only give you $367 a month if you are full time. And then you also only have 10 years to use those benefits. Only if you get deployed then you can switch over to the Post 911 GI Bill, which you get housing allowance, and a larger sum per month (based off of the rank of E-5 pay,as well as only a percentage of it depending if your active federal service hasn't reached 3 years). You will also be able to use tuition assistance which would generally cut costs of tuition out of your costs for school.
Honestly I would choose active duty since you can have as little as a 3 year contract, and then you will be able to gain those school benefits when you get out. It is all up to you though how you would like to proceed.
