Well the day finally came today at 10:30 this morning. I was thinking I'd be really nervous this morning but not one hint of butterflies. The hearing was super short, the judge was very nice. All I had to do was state my current legal name.  Which mow I realize is the first time I've spoken it in three weeks. He said I see you published the notice and is their anyone hear with objections. He then said chain it is for a very good reason and had no reason to deny it. From start to finish it took like thirty seconds.

After that I went to the court clerk and officially filed my order and it was official right then. After that I had to file it with the county clerk which took all of two minutes. I would have done social security but they were closing early so I have to wait till tomorrow. And then on to all the paperwork great!

Now I really can't go back to the other guy I guess. I mean Raven can be kind of female or male but more female. But my middle name is Lisa. Not that I want to go back to the old name.

Congrats girl!  Feels fantastic doesn't!  I kinda did the same thing, Jessie can be male or female but the Ann is all girl!  I know that I never ever want to go back to my old gender, I love being a woman and I haven't stopped smiling in 6 months.

Go party girl!

Congrats! Can't wait for the day when I can send the forms. No court date here. I will be just changing my middle name.

Good for you! I know the process can be scary but it is soooooo worth it. I think this change will give you more satisfaction than anything else in the process. That was my experience.

I was so frightened when I did mine, I had my lawyer appear on my behalf. I don't know if that is still possible. I was scared to death when I had to go get my driver license changed and had to keep that "M" on it. Utah didn't have any sense of transness back then. When I moved to California, the DMV changed my gender to F just based on my appearance. I did my SS change in California where it was no big deal.

I couldn't get a modified birth certificate until 2007 from Utah because of the laws. But, they changed them and I got right to it. So now I have a certificate of live birth that has a different last name than that of my parents. When I applied for a passport recently, I was asked why my last name was different. I just told the kind woman that it was "classified." She accepted that reason unreservedly as though I were in a witness protection program or something. Go figure.

Thanks Jessie! I know I smiled for a good two hours after getting my name changed and still smiling right now.

Laura and Islandgirl thanks!

Cindi, thanks! At first filling the paper work was scary I mean outing myself as trans and anyone that picked up a newspaper. But on my various trips to the courthouse the sting became less and less. And even today having to announce my old legal name to the entire court ok the judge and like five other people was not a big deal. Of course now watch when I change my drivers license Friday I'll turn into a nervous wreck!

Thanks Harley! I would have a round but I don't drink.
