Hey everyone,  I am 3 months post op of FFS.  I am healed, with no open wounds around incisions...  Do you think it's safe to receive a perm?

You might want to ask a doctor on that one. Many time incisions shouldn't be exposed to sunlight and the chemical in the perm solution are pretty harsh. The chemicals used to burn my skin sometimes. If you decide to do it, sometimes they have a paste they use to protect sensitive areas and you might have them apply it to the incisions to protect them from the chemicals.

I dyed my hair blonde 3 months po and like you I was healed at the time with no open wounds etc. I put vaseline where I could before dyeing my hair, but despite all that the effect was quite impressive.. It made the scar from forehead surgery red and feel tight and it gave me headaches for a while. Was happy that I had my hair done though, lol. I then waited 3 months again with dying my hair and by then it was a lot better. Oh and when I asked my surgeon shortly after surgery he told me I could dye my hair at a couple of weeks po..... I'm so glad I didn't.

It's probably not safe for me with the hair I have left to get a perm.   And besides because I have naturally wavy and loose curly hair a perm is really pointless.    I guess getting a perm depends on your hair.   Check with a hair salon that deals with expensive hair styles or check with a hair stylers' college to see if a perm is safe for your hair.

Also, you can look at all the older ladies around that you know have permed their hair since they were young and see what state their hair is in.   I remember my mother giving herself perms or getting help from a neighbor lady and I am not so sure that I would put myself through all that.

I know that I am a woman because I feel  perfectly comfortable imagining myself as Dolly Parton.   However, I could never envision myself as a Hell's Angel riding down the highway on a Harley.   I maybe could see myself as Dolly Parton riding down the highway on a Harley.   How I express my womanhood is my choice, and my choice only.    It's not what I do that makes me a woman, it's who I am.
Be true to yourself.  The future will reveal itself in its own due time.    Find the calm at the heart of the storm.    I own my womanhood.

I am a 69-year-old transsexual school teacher grandma & lady.   Ethnically I am half Irish  and half Scandinavian.   I can be a real bitch or quite loving and caring.  I have never taken any hormones or had surgery, I am out 24/7/365.
