"A Lynchburg woman was indicted by a grand jury Monday on felony rape and abduction charges stemming from an August incident involving a juvenile, according to the Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office."

Wow. Statistically not surprising. There are hundreds of thousands of trans women in the U.S. It would be a bizarre statistical anomaly if there weren't at least one major scoundrel among them.

I hope people don't hold it against all of us. I'd hate to have to hold all the crimes committed by cisgender women against the cisgender female community.

I also hope that this is not in anyway motivated by discrimination, and that she gets a fair trial.

I'm surprised you didn't recognize the individual. You commented in may of this year on an article:

It's also rather strange that public perception and a "fair trial" seems to be your primary concern. Julianna Fialkowski led an LGBT youth support group.

As a community we need to take serious steps to protect young transgender from such predators.

Thanks Cathy, no I didn't recognize the name. I don't have that kind of memory.

Maybe I'm naive, but I'm taking the rape charge a bit more seriously than the other charges.

I agree with your point about protecting young people from sexual predators.

I agree with both of you -- that trans women, as a sample of broader humanity, are bound to have a few bad apples just like any group. Hope no one uses her as proof of transgender deviancy or something awful like that.

I also agree with the sexual predator point. Unfortunately, my experience in young trans circles is such that manipulative, predatory people are disturbingly common. Again, bad apples, but it really is terrible watching exploitative people prey on a very vulnerable group by using the language of equality, social justice, and support. Young trans people (myself included at the time!) are so often looking for guidance and validation, and people do take advantage, especially sexually.

I am a bit, unconvinced about what evidence they have on her is real or not. She has had a history of run ins with the authorities, and I don't know enough about the situation to know how likely it all really is.
