"LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas) — While Fox has yet to announce the "frontman" to fill the lead role for its Rocky Horror reboot, the "Rocky Horror Picture Show Event," we've learned the job actually goes to (drum roll) — transgender actress LaVerne Cox!"

Wasn't rocky horror about a fetishist transexual.  Seems like a bad choice of role.

Yeah, RHPS is one of the most offensive movies. I hope Ms. Cox insist that the remake doesn't compound or repeat the mistake. The story calling her a "transvestite" is not off to a good start. I'm personally surprised Cox would play a male, but what do I really know.

I didn't see where they called her a transvestite? She's an actress, she should be able to play any role.

My .02 worth.

The character she is playing is a transvestite, who is dressing up for sexual kicks as I remember it.

"She will play the role of transvestite scientist "Dr. Frank N. Furter" "

Seems like a bad choice of a role. She's a woman. Not a man dressed up and playing one.

That movie is pretty unPC by today's standards but when the original came out it was a lot of fun to see it at the theater.  People would dress in costumes and would yell out the funny parts of the dialog back at the screen.

I'll be really surprised if a remake has that kind of success.

You don't have to be a transvestite to play one, conversely, playing a transvestite doesn't make you one. At the end of the day, she is free to play any roles she wants to accept. This isn't something she's being forced to do.

Laverne Cox in Rocky Horror Makes This Writer Very Nervous

While those within our own community will likely draw the proper distinctions, cisgender and heterosexual people are far less likely to possess the necessary insight or inclination to understand. I shudder to consider what some right-wing groups and politicians might do with video clips of a spectacularly staged production of a fully transitioned celebrity trans woman singing "I'm just a sweet transvestite."

At the end of the day, it's silly and campy and I don't think taking it too seriously or overthinking this at this point is necessary.  At the end of the day, Richard O'Brien can do whatever they want with reimagining it, which is what is actually happening here. (Richard O'Brien has been on HRT for at least the last decade and ID's as non-binary, BTW.)  I won't knock it until I've seen it, but I think they're going to tweak the role of Frank N' Furter just a wee bit.

I'd also love to see Jack Black as Eddie...

I think the movie is pretty funny. There is a theater in the neighborhood I grew up in that had a midnight showing of it for thirty years after it came out . Everyone would dress up and go to the midnight showing. It's a cult favorite.

LOL, one of the most embarrassing things happened when I went to one of those late night showings back in the 70's with two of my cousins.  One boy and one girl.  My male cousin kept yelling at everyone to sit down and shut up.  My other cousin and I just wanted to slink down and hide so nobody knew he was with us.  :-)

You know how people complain when cisgender people are cast as transgender?  I'm sorry, but I can't help but think that this is the funniest thing in the world -- I see people complaining about a transgender person being cast as cisgender!  The horrors!  The rocky, rocky horrors! ;)

i love rocky horror. Riff Raff is one of my dream roles (if, you know, i could sing or anything haha)

But because the whole point is cross dressing i kinda wanted to see a transwoman as Magenta, Columbia or Janet...

Maybe this time around the Frank N Furter character will be a MtF who crossdresses in guy clothes?

Sweet transvestite- check
Transsexual- check
