Fallout 4 good but difficult

I bought Fallout 4 the other day. It's a very good game but I'm having trouble with the difficulty even when it's set to easy. A typical game goes like this. "I think I'll explore what's left of Boston. Oh, no Super Mutants. Maybe I can reason with them, my character has a high intelligence. 'Hey Mr. Mutant can we talk?' 'Human food, get in cook pot, No talk' "Okay that won't work. Let's see I have a decent gun...but it's all out of ammo. Use the switchblade? Yeah that's not going to work. Run!.....

"Made it out of there let's see Raiders over there, sneak past... No doggie, don't! 'Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!" *blam!* *blam!* *blam!* So much for sneaking... Gotta save doggie, hit points low, no stimpacks.... Okay got one of them, what's that noise behind me *blam!*..... game over.

It's a lot harder than Fallout 3 was.  :D

Lol you made me laugh like crazy how you described that... [emoji23][emoji23]

Yea its a lot harder but that's a good thing for me at least, gives it a more survival feel. Either way I love doggie but hate him sometimes [emoji108]

... Unless you're on a 'console', then you're SOL.

Personally, I have never really understood the 'dying' in video games. I mean, you're almost ALWAYS the hero/ine... and everybody knows, the hero/ine NEVER dies - at least not until 'the end', so yeah. WTF?! I almost always play in 'god mode', because it doesn't break from the immersion as badly... for me at least. But that's about as far as I usually go with the cheats (unless a main plot mission is broken to high hell... like Skyrim's Esbern; STILL broken to this very day. Have to console-complete that entire mission. Ugh). Doesn't affect how good you are or how many shots it takes to kill the AI's, just saves you a ton of loading time.

Oh right... what's hacking me off about this game, is the disappearing companions. Lost one, nowhere to be found (and I certainly didn't tell him to 'wait' somewhere and run off without him; was right there one second... then gone. Got another, asked me where to send him... sanctuary hills... annnnd... still gone. Bah!!! Think workshop mode is related; what I had been doing at the time). And settlements, seems there's a glitch there where you lose ability to use the workshop (my favorite feature of this game, so really sucks). *Sigh*

Stealth builds seem to do a lot to mitigate the difficulty, expecially if you incorporate the luck perks. I'm to the point where my silenced 10mm can one-shot Behemoths with a sneak attack and a critical.

I am on a console and I'm also okay at stealth but since I've gone up a few levels it's a little easier. I have more action points for VATS mode now so it's not as hard. It sure is fun. :)

I can't wait to play this. My computer upgrades should be in really soon, and then I'll be on all day.  ;D

Because its genetic makeup is irregular, it quickly changes its form due to a variety of causes.

I'm playing it like a shooter without VATS on Easy or Very Easy.  I died twice on Normal trying to play it like I am now.  Wasn't fun.  I play ES games the same way; hack 'n slash, but I never really had an issue with those.  So I'd say tune the difficulty to your play style.
Carpe diem.

Vats seems weaker in this game than the previous Fallout games. I would put some put some points in toughness for now since it's hard to stack up defense early on without being able to upgrade armor. Take chems if you have to fight.

Crafting upgrade in general is really powerful.

I think VATS is a bit more balanced than it was in 3 or New Vegas. It was too good in 3, too weak in NV, and just right here because it is something you need to invest in to utlize well.

Just picked up the game yesterday on PS4 and still super early ... But man, they throw you in really fast into a punch of systems that they don't fully explain.  It took me FOREVER to figure out how to apply power to something from a generator!  I went through every single sub menu in the workshop to find power lines, to later find you just push a button when you highlight items ... Ugh.  I still don't know if dealing with building up your settlement is required, I do know the mechanics isn't fun.  Right now I'm kind of ignoring it.

The changes in the VATS system seems to really make the game more difficult.  It's making me want to play it more like a shooter, which isn't helping the difficulty at all.  I'm not finding good weapon drops that give me the damage needing to kill the most basic enemies.

Regardless, I see the fun and I'm hoping this is just early game issues.

kaylee: You can find better weapons as you go but the thing is since crafting has become such a big thing in games (and a mechanic I find boring) the game wants you to upgrade your weapons. Want to upgrade that pistol? You'll need five aluminum cans, four hotplates, some military grade duct tape and a copy of "How not to fall asleep while upgrading your items". As far as I know you don't have to deal with the settlements and upgrading them. It's on option but not one you have to choose. I know some people like it but I just find it boring. I also had the same problem you did while trying to run power from a generator. Good thing the majority of the game is fun.

I'm really disliking the crafting system  >:( >:( >:(

Screws, gosh darn screws ... no idea where to get them!  I guess it wouldn't too horrible if they didn't limit how much you can carry in your inventory, and slow load times.  Having to fast travel back and forth to unload all the junk is SO annoying!

I was beginning to lose hope in this game.  I wasn't having fun.  Unable to find material to upgrade my weapons, but can't go out into the wasteland with hopes to find better gear and to get material to upgrade, but dying.  Rinse/repeat.  Was going to give up and trade the sucker in.  Then decided to lower the difficulty ... the game is MUCH more enjoyable.  Still can't find the right materials I need to upgrade anything, but at least I'm not dying as much.

The changes they made to VATS is really disappointing.  Hardly ever use them now.

After playing this game for a while now, I think it's easier than I expected, but still really good. I might raise the difficulty for a challenge, but I like it where it is for now. I especially love the crafting system. It's a great progression for the Bethesda games.
