How accepting is Portland Oregan for Trans women and men? Would like some insight

Portland is pretty tolerant from what I've heard. I have several trans friends who live there and when I've visited I have never experienced any sort of harassment or dirty looks or anything like that.

I no longer live in Portland, but I found it to be a very tolerant, liberal place wrt trans issues -- although it's very white for a major west coast city, if that makes a difference to you. Most clinics in the Portland area operate on an informed consent basis for HRT. There is an LGBT centre called the Q Center that houses a few trans support groups. There is a large trans population.

The only downside is that I couldn't pass there for life of me. Too many gender non-conforming people for me to be read as anything outside the norm for women. 

Portland OR, like Austin Texas, sports the motto "Keep Portland Weird"  I was at the Ptown Q Center on Friday and met with some of the NW Gender Alliance folks.  There are several support and social groups for trans people and we are a visible presence at any LGBTQ event.  That includes our own Trans Pride Parade.

Portland also has the distinction of being the most moved to city in the USA lately.  It is tough and competitive to find housing and work.   More than a few of the women from the support groups talk about being broke, homeless and living in their car.

It has a temperate rainforest climate and is a geographically beautiful place to live.  Yes, very white and still tolerant.  The most progressive parts of the State being in the Willamette Valley that includes Eugene.

Austin is described as a progressive part of Texas

I came out in Portland for years ago and found it to be a gray place in that regard. I then moved to Orange county CA expecting problems but had none. The west coast in general is good!

I recently moved back to the Portland area and love it here! The Q Center here is a good resource and Kaiser insurance is covering SRS and other surgeries now!
