I am afraid of purchasing lipstick or make up period... So I did this instead. I had to get it out of my system.

Today. I had a not so original idea about "vaseline+kool aid lip gloss". Went to store purchase kool aid, microwave it for 2 mins in a 1 in by 1 in cup with literal orange juice from an orange (teaspoon), throw in a qt teaspoon of kool aid
, and microwave it again. Spray a little perfume and sunscreen into for their benefits.

Voila. lipgloss. I put it on and because I did not use a lot of kool aid the effect was very subtle. It was very glossy.

But... I made a kool aid lip stain (into the palm of your hand mix a little kool aid and water), tab it on your lips. And it was a beautiful natural lip stain and with the gloss look like a pro. I then use a little bit of the stain on my cheeks (add more water)

I love the look because it made my face look very romantic... English rose. This is not me below, but the look was similar (redder lips though)

What are your first time use of make up?? And why?

Apart from experiments when I was a kid, my first serious makeup application was a total disaster as I did not have a clue.

I did not even know foundation from blush. All I knew is that stuff goes on your face. My mom never taught me how to do my makeup and my wife refuses obviously.

But I went and got a makeover at Sephora, watched a few YouTube tutorials and I can do a basic basic makeup routine now.

It's on my list. Hopefully one day I'll get better at it.

My early attempts were pretty bad but I got better and when I started getting correct colors with help from the women at makeup counters it got even better.  I bought two books that really helped.  Face Forward and Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin.  He explained how he did the makeup in each photo.

I've only started using makeup about 6+ months ago.

Started with some foundation and concealer... I needed it to deal with impurities on my face. It wasn't hard at all because it was easy coverage. Just recently I've picked out some fun lipstick colors, natural pink and a more coral pink. Then on our trip to Turkey my sister just randomly asked me what foundation I was using... it was so obvious lol...

It takes a LOT of courage to enter make up stores here because I live in Bahrain. The ladies were very nice to me 2 out of the 3 times I've been to one on my own.

Last time I entered Inglot one of the girls had a really confused look on her face until I aggressively smiled at her to shrug it off.

Similar here. But I believe that make up shouldnt be use to disguise but rather enhance and have a lasting effect. Thats why I like suntan lotions. Thats not makeup but its good enough lol.

Low maintence. And I need natural effects, like thats God given beauty.

If someone thinks Im wearing makeup... Then no.

When I first started using makeup I didn't know the reasons for applying it (e.g. Accentuate, camouflage, contour, highlight, correct, etc.), nor did I follow the less is more principal, so needless to say it didn't look good, but I was happy just to be wearing it.  😀

I had a friend help me with make up as I was going dressed female to a fancy dress party.
She was the one that suggested I go female since she thought it would be funny and that no one would guess it was me, so she helped as much as she could.
Not like I would say no given the chance to be myself, lol.

I had a fair amount of make up on at that point, these days since I have to do my own make up I will only put foundation and blusher on, I only do it lightly so my freckles still show, mostly I'm so pale I try to add a little colour to my face lol.

My first time doing it myself was alright since I tried to copy what she did, my make up will never look as good as when she did it for me especially since eyeshadow is not something I could do and I still can't.

first attempts were too much and very red lipstick.  I rarely wear lipstick any more

To be honest, the reason make up exist is to make a female look like she has high estrogen.

In pre 1920s, gaudy make up wasnt a fashionable thing, women use lead and arsenic for whitening the skin (to look rich as suntan look like a worker), and dark eyes and red lips were signs of being in heat.

In Gone with the Wind, Scarlet Ohara pinch her cheeks to get a rosy glow. (I do that more than I want to admit).

If you wear a lot of make up in those days, you look like a prostitute. In the book, Scarlet told Mammie to buy her rouge because it was not fashionable to be doing that sort of thing.

I dont see the point of pink eyeshadows or ombre lips or white lipstick... Doesnt look real and to me defeats the beauty of makeup.

Its artistic though.

I got cheap makeup that I picked up at the Px. I had no idea there really was a big enough difference between them to notice. Anyway I ended up walking around with glitter on my face that I couldn't completely remove to save my life. I also didn't know about eye makeup remover. I took almost all my eyelashes out trying to get that stuff off my face. Oh and I was still in the military when this happened.

Since then I've learned that I need to stop trying on my eyebrows and it really hurts when you poke yourself in the eye.

Ahh... the memories. My mothers lipstick when I was still in grade school. It was wonderful ! Messed about with mothers and older sisters make up when I could. Was kind of hard as I didn't have much alone time as a kid. Much , much later when I got serious about learning to do it right I stumbled on make up artist Kevyn Aucoin's books. They are really great for learning the ins and outs. And yes stabbing yourself in the eye with a mascara brush REALLY hurt !

For all of the new girls; eventually you will be able to apply mascara without the dreaded eyelid flinch. 

I used makeup for the first time two days ago, just used some mascara and foundation, its made loads of difference ! 😀

I know what you mean about the eye flinch, i keep worrying ill jab myself in the eye 

My first time I was going to a Halloween party and dressing as a prostitute.  Had to have a "reason" to be a girl.  My wife did my makeup for me, but made me look like a clown, very trashy.  I literally cried over it.  I removed it all, and did it myself the best I could, as she wasn't happy with me being unhappy with her efforts.  It wasn't great, but it made me happy, and it seemed to be done well enough that people didn't know I was me until I told them.

My first time applying makeup was not that much of a disaster.. ok I will admit i cheated... I had a good female friend help me.. ok she applied most of it..

She taught me how to apply makeup and what goes with what. But applying makeup requires practice.. now a number of years down the line, i apply like a pro.

If/when I apply makeup for the first time, I'm going to be taking baby steps. Maybe just foundation to start with, then gradually work my way up.

I kept trying and practicing and eventually started to work out the proper relationship between the amount of mascara vs. eyeliner vs. eyeshadow. I figured out how foundation works, and how to highlight my cheekbones with blush. I also figured out which shades worked best with my complexion, and which brands I preferred. All of this just takes time and practice.

I learned that less is more - more tended to look caked on, less looked more natural.

When I went out in public the first time it took me over 3 hours to apply makeup

Now I can do it in under 20 minutes.

My first time worked out pretty well. Mostly because my mother was helping me out. The only real failure was the lipstick, and even that got dealt with quickly enough.
That reminds me, I haven't used my make-up in months. I've had to go to school on weekdays, and during the weekends my stepdad comes home, and he still has to get properly used to me being a girl, so I haven't really had an opportunity since the summer.

it made me realize i look better with warm colors than cool. but i still have the worst time applying eyeliner and mascara without blinking like crazy and making a mess.
