I rarely go anymore, but tanning does help me pass, and I need to get back into it.
When first starting, VERY SLOWLY increase the time you go for/frequency. I started out in stand-up booths, but now that I can achieve a base very quickly, I prefer the beds (they're stronger, I can go for more time, and get a better tan, so I don't have to go as often). It took a long time to get a really noticeable tan, but I feel I approached it safely. I went to the beach this summer (didn't get in the water though, so I wasn't very exposed), BUT I didn't use sunscreen the entire time. Didn't burn, just got a little bit more tan. It felt so nice having that type of freedom.

I don't use any lotions or anything when I tan. I know it's better to moisturize, I'm just not invested enough in it to spend the extra money or effort.
