You may find what I have on HRT.  Before I had that drive to live as woman too.  Now that drive is replaced by a mental image of myself as a woman no matter what I look like or am wearing at the moment.  It is quite a liberating feeling.  So, I feel very at ease just taking my time and letting things happen.  It helps too that I have grown my hair for a year and it's pretty thick and unless I'm wearing a tie and present my old ID with a beard I rarely am called sir anymore and am called ma'am more often than sir.  Mostly at this point though I think people are unsure.  That's in jeans, a button down shirt, and no makeup, and facial hair not removed yet.

So HRT can make a pretty big difference in looks pretty quickly.  FFS would help that along greatly too.  For me though the primary benefit has been mental in reducing the discord and making me feel whole.

Thank you Deborah although I must repeat that you have a gorgeously soft and feminine face. But without any reserves I look forward to the mental and emotional freedoms granted by HRT. Luckily I am an Aussie girl so medical costs, such as domestic ones or those incurred by traveling to Thailand, are relatively lesser for me.

Here is where I started.  This pic is maybe about 5 years old and 30 or so pounds heavier.

This one is about 2 years old at my current weight.

I'm not sure I'll leave these posted for a long time.

That is my question thoroughly answered girls. Wowee! Thanks, thanks and more thanks! I might reasonably hope for soft, beautiful and "oh-so" feminine features framed by gorgeous hair if I both remain patient and follow the instructions of the medicos (such as my endocrinologist) involved. My dreams are being given true life at last.

At almost 11 months, i have noticed none or very little change in my face proportionally, but i have noticed it looks different because my skin has changed and my complexion is not oily anymore.  My weight has remained basically constant but i have gained a cup size on my bust (i was gynecomastic before HRT) i have gained about an inch on my hips, lost an inch on my waist and gained two full inches on my butt. My spouse has notice the size and shape of my butt changing.

I started HRT at 49 (if you count messing around with herbals 47ish, but i dont count that)

Everyone is different i guess, but i have been really pleased so far.

Hi Roxanne!  In answer to your questions it kind of depends on a number of things.  You will need to consider your starting point, the level of your current hormones, what level of HRT you start out at (low dose or transition level), HRT delivery method, how your body reacts to HRT and any number of other variables.  As many of the ladies here have pointed out, mid forties should not be an obstacle to transitioning.

Like many of the ladies here I began my transition later in life.  In fact, I started earlier this year when I was 53.  I am 54 now.   You asked if FFS is needed to be passing again it depends on a number of factors. How comfortable you are with your appearance.  Your hair and makeup skills.  There can be a lot of variables.

To give you an idea of how fast the changes can occur, even for a later in life transition, here are some pictures.
(For reference I began HRT on March 2nd of this year.  I went full time everywhere but work in April and full time everywhere on June 15th.  I had FFS and BA on August 31st.)

This picture shows how I looked in March of this year when I started HRT vs how I looked last week.

December 2nd Post FFS and BA

I was full time I believe I was passing ok relatively quickly.  Once I got my hair colored and styled and I got my makeup skills learned I was very confident in my appearance.  The other things that you will need to work on besides your physical appearance is your voice, mannerisms and walking skills.  All of those things affect how you are perceived by others.  Believe it or not I still get the occasional "sir" comment when someone isn't paying attention because of my size.  I can be in a skirt with red lipstick and nails, large hoop earrings, full Smokey Eyes with a plunging neckline blouse showing my 38C boobs and get "sir'd".  I laugh when that happens.

Good luck and get ready for the ride of your life.

Jessie Anne what can I say? You are so gorgeous that I need to start ASAP which for me is mid February. Wow. But I might consider help from FFS too and luckily I have been able to save for various surgeries. Furthermore I live in Australia and Thailand is close by for these.

so In answer to my question I now have a REAL hope for a REAL ANSWER from HRT. I should also mention that you girls are also gorgeous to a point that I can only hope for once I start my HRT. I just hope you can tolerate me gushing from hope and excitement while not thinking of me as just a foolish newcomer.

Hi Roxie

Never worry you are very welcome on here as we all have a lot of questions on a  lot of different things. The only one that will really feel and notice the big changes will be you. Over time It can be so rewarding. I myself haven't realized the amount of changes till I look back at my pictures of my passed and then I can see it. The biggest part for me was the calmness that came to me with HRT. I can not even began to tell you how wonderful it has been for me. Everything takes time and you must keep your patients as it does not happen over night.

Keep a picture log for yourself you will be amazed at the changes over time.

Love

Thanks Lyndsey.  I've seen your posts on your transition and it has been amazing.  Keep up the good work!  Am I correct in assuming that you are also an attorney?

Thank you so much Roxie!  I know that once we later in life girls get started there can be no stopping us.  I probably could have got by just fine without the FFS but the subtle changes I got from it have been wonderful.  I know that many people counsel to wait for a period of time before getting procedures done.  For many, if not most, that is very good advice.  Because I am a professional and have to meet with the pubic and with attorney's and judges, I did not want to wait that long to have my changes.  If I made the right decision or not only time will tell.  As of right now I am very glad I did not wait.

Thanks again Lyndsey you have been a wonderful fountain of both encouragement and wisdom, which a newbie like myself needs while yourself Jessie Ann is also of great encouragement. Don't worry, I fully intend to give HRT at least 10 months to work its effects on me before undergoing any FFS but no promises regarding GRS/SRS because the thought of having a vagina feels soooo right to me. Yep' SRS, ASAP for me. Given the legal realties here in the antipodes SRS is at least a year away. But I must say that your looks are VERY tempting for FFS Jessie Ann.
