Chara

Hi,

I have a consult with Dr Dussen tomorrow. Unlike most Dr's I am finding it difficult to find many/any before and after pics of his work,  does anyone have any links for me?

Thanks in anticipation.

I went for a consult with Dr Dussen on Sunday and I was very impressed with him and his work.  He showed me lots of before and after and they were extremely good.

His explanations were excellent and his quote good. He did not recommend the works like some do and I would feel very comfortable with him doing my surgery.

Of the surgeons I have consulted Dr's zukowski,  spiral,  Cardigan,  Bart,  Dussen and the FT for me the two that stood out were Dussen and the FT.

Hi there,

I have my surgery booked with Dr Van der Dussen, and was wondering if you went ahead with the surgery? If not, then why?
  •

Chara

Hi,

I went with the FT in the end.  Had my surgery in the middle of July.  I found Dr Dussen to be very good at the consultation and would have considered him more seriously if it wasn't for timing issues and my being more comfortable with the FT.

I'm not getting responses from FT I'm wondering if you know van der Dussen uses same techniques as FT?

Hiya,

I am surprised that you are not getting any responses from FT.

How are you contacting them?

By email.  Finally heard back, so I responded with some questions and begged for a March date

Great, of course they only arrived back at work this week due to the festive season.

If you are having surgery in March, I fly out on Thursday March 31st, so might see you there?

Hope so ..   :)

Hope so, too!  It all depends on if I can get a date :(  During my consult he mentioned May, but that's not great timing for me.  I'm not too keen on van der Dussen just because he may be getting up in years..

OK, keep us informed ...  :)

It would be good to meet you in person.

I heard Dr Dussen is handing over his work to someone else and planning to retire? Is that true? That's part of why I did not consider a consultation with him (also I would have had to travel to his office plus pay a significant consultation fee - which was not worth it for me at that time, considering that FFS is just a rather remote option as I had already more or less considered that voice surgery was my primary goal and after that, I am not having the money for FFS for a while)

Yep all these pioneer surgeons are calling it a day and it's wonderful that we now have a much greater choice of surgeons to go to.

You younger girls and we older ones are spoilt for choice which is great.

Nothing better than competition to raise standards and keep prices down.

In my opinion, Dr Van Der Dussen's technique of combining bone work with soft tissue work is superior to Facial Team's. Facial Team, however, is a team, so there's that.

Few years ago Facial team worked with a plastic surgeon dr. Kaye (from Oceanclinic, Marbella), for cases where patients needed soft tissue work, he jumped in and do soft tissue work for them. Aparently he doesn't anymore, and since then they basically don't do any soft tissue work, apart from minor things as lip-lift, brow-lift... None of their 4 surgeons is specialized in plastic, reconstructive & aesthetic surgery. They would greatly benefit from having one skilled plastic surgeon on their team full-time.

what would that soft tissue work be? face lifts and lipotransfers?

  •

Lagertha

Eyelid surgery (upper and lower blepharoplasty), lower/mid facelifts, cheek lift, malar&submalar cheek implants, neck lift and neck liposuction, lipotransfers and dermal fillers (like collagen, hyaluronic acid, etc...), laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, dermabrasion, and other rejuvenation procedures, buccal fat removal and lower face liposuction, jaw muscle reduction, chin augmentation with implants or fillers, soft tissue asymmetry corrections, etc... Many of those things might not be relevant for a 20 year old FFS patient... but it might be very important to someone at 40 or more.

Some of that sounds interesting indeed, but I think those are probably best done in a second step after the bone work FFS anyways, right? Once the swelling settled and the face has its new shape. So I would think it not so much of a problem if it is fdifferent surgeons who do these procedures

  •

Lagertha

Depends on combination of procedures.. some can be done during same surgery, some are better done later after tissue settles if very aggressive bone work was done. Generally it is better to avoid multiple surgeries and general anesthesia, if there is a reasonable option to combine different procedures. Some of those procedures, minimally invasive can easily be done in "office" with local anesthesia or sedation. These are definitely better done later.
