Will a republican president be able to really persecute us?  All the candidates have made it clear that they will be coming after us with a vengeance and I'm truly frightened. Especially frightened that republican president will give psychopaths the impression that's it's ok to kill us without reprocussions and a slaughter will ensue.  How much power will a republican president have to come after us?  Seriously

If someone tries to go after me, I will defend myself. Simple.

He really won't have that much power and while he can slow or stop positive change for a while I don't really think he could turn back the clock to the dark ages like many of his followers would like.

The bigger concern as I see it is that a Republican win will be seen as a mandate for all the state and local social conservatives.  They do have the ability to make life miserable with an acceleration in socially repressive laws.

I pity the fool who comes after me.

Same here.

I don't worry about that crap. If someone comes at me, they will regret it. So, I'm not concerned. I also don't care about any laws that some bigot in a fancy suit attempts to pass. They can go get stuffed for all I care. I will continue to live my life, no matter what.

If a Republican wins, I'm moving out of the country and claiming asylum, lol.

As a distant but interested observer of US politics it seems to me, over the last few elections anyway, that the GOP candidates vying for the presidential nomination do a lot of frothing and foaming at the mouth in order to win the vote of their constituents involved in the primaries or caucuses. Once they have that nomination and are running for President they do seem to moderate their message somewhat in order to appeal to a broader base. Like a lot of Presidents that get in, be they Dem or Rep their promises and agendas seem to get blunted pretty quickly through the political reality of the system. Doesn't mean they won't have trans people in their sights though.

Exactly. They need your vote, they don't need you. The people who believe their promises will find themselves disappointed.....and still living next door to icky LGBT people!

I am also more concerned about the actions of a Republican president's fans than the president himself. A president could make things harder, but the people I interact with could make life miserable for me because they suddenly think they are entitled to do so. While I would try to be tough and defend myself if anything happened, I know I wouldn't be ready for every situation. I am certainly not the toughest person around and I shouldn't have to fear the world around me like that.

This probably sounds super wimpy, but my dude and I have pretty much established we're moving to Canada(until the presidency of such heinous person is over(most likely Trump)). We could stay and fight for the left during it, but you know I think to would just be too crazy of a country to live in I dunno

As much as Presidents like to think they have a lot of power, they don't. We live with a system of checks and balances as designed by the founding fathers. Congress and the Supreme court have far more power than the President does. Yet, all three have equal power with each other. Secondly, anything that violates our rights or endangers us the Supreme Court could easily find it unconstitutional. I wouldn't worry to much about their beliefs. A ton of what they say are just talking points and nothing more. Now time for me to put my moderator hat on.

Lets please also keep in mind for those posting in this thread that bashing will not be tolerated. Our political parties maybe what they may be, but bashing won't be tolerated. Everyone has been good so far, but still it is important to note in a thread that could easily get rather heated. Lets Also remember TOS 15 and not attack other users and their views. Thanks

. . . anything that violates our rights or endangers us the Supreme Court could easily find it unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court routinely splits 5 to 4 on its decisions.  Sometimes the winning side is progressive, and sometimes it's reactionary.  But it's often 5 to 4.

The next President will appoint one and possibly as many as three judges to the Court.  The most likely to retire is Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is in her 80s and a two-time cancer survivor.  She has been a steadfast champion of women's and LGBT rights.  If a Republican appoints her successor, the tenor of the Supreme Court is about to change.  Even worse if there are multiple appointments.

From a Court characterized by 5 to 4 rulings, some good and some bad, a Republican President may have the opportunity to change that to a steady streak of 6 to 3 rulings, all of them toxic.  Future majority opinions involving LGBT rights may end up being written by Scalia, or Thomas, or Alito.  This could have the effect of poisoning the US legal system for many years into the future.

so if one certain person wins there could be some problems because he has made it perfectly clear that the LGBT is immoral .

I don't think Donald will be as bad as people think.  He clearly stated that gay marriage is the law of the land and he will not change it. The people have spoken. He may have a hands off approach and focus on the economy and national security, which is what the president needs to do.

Don't count Bernie out! Obama got elected twice and he is black and  progressive. The political climate has REALLY changed in America. Bernie is the only strongish pro trans canidate.

I believe that Hilary will throw us under the bus.  Anyway, why isn't hilary in jail?

Yeah I've thought about moving to Canada and seeking asylum myself.

Ted Cruz is the great evil.  Ted stated that he supports the death penalty for LGBT.
