Donald Trump has apparently been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize

According to reports, Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Vox reports that Trump has been nominated for the honour, but points out that thousands of people are nominated for the award each year.

His nomination follows others such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, former Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin and U2 frontman Bono.

I'm fairly certain there are better nominees out there this year, but if you look at the list of past winners it's enough to really make you wonder about the process for this prize.  Note that Gandhi never won it, for example.

"Olav Njoelstad, the non-voting secretary to the Nobel judging panel, said qualified nominators -- including lawmakers of national parliaments and former winners -- often submit their candidates at the very last minute, with new names pouring in throughout the deadline day, which was Monday this week. Any nomination postmarked before February 2 will be considered.

It was not clear who might have submitted the nomination for U.S. Republican presidential candidate and billionaire businessman Donald Trump.

Nobel watcher Kristian Berg Harpviken, the director of the Peace Research Institute of Oslo, told the French news agency AFP that he had received a copy of the nomination letter, suggesting Trump -- who drew criticism from around the world for his vow to ban Muslims entering the United States -- should be awarded the prestigious prize for "his vigorous peace through strength ideology, used as a threat weapon of deterrence against radical Islam, ISIS, nuclear Iran and Communist China".

I believe Vox is mock news, however not certain. I didn't read the article, but could only guess bringing unity among non whites is a form of bringing peace indirectly. Also, you can't ignore the unity he has brought to democrats, republicans, independents, libertarians, non-partisan comedians, most religious leaders, and atheist alike that just find Trump bat sh!t crazy. I mean that guy crazy. Like, beyond words he is freaking insane. ??? ??? :P ??? ???

Anyone can be nominated for a Nobel Prize. It's just a matter of filling out a form. The committee will accept or reject nominations based on their own criteria. Most are rejected. Sarah Palin was nominated a few years ago. That was funny too.

The Nobel Peace Prize is serious business, but a list of those nominated before the winnowing process is hilarious.

Same goes for running for president. I remember back in I think either 95 or 99 MTV was covering the election, and the focused on a few random guys that filed the paperwork.

I think I'm going to run for president in 2020 and then have a friend fill out the papers to nominate me for a Nobel prize in multiple categories. Then I'll just use it on my linkd in profile. Think that might make me stand out a little lol.

During the Viet Nam war you would have a priest escort you across the border and you would apply for citizenship. There was an organization that took people across the border.

Do you mean to tell me I could have been Canadian rather than going to Vietnam? Wow, did I ever screw up.

A funnier thing is that a group of people also tried to nominate the current president of my country (S. Korea) for that prize, too. It was not a joke, and was serious as in the case of Trump.

Just do it.

I avoided the draft by joining! Leave our Canadian friends alone! Don't they have enough from all of the hot air coming up from the south?

While I would never support Trump, at least he is not a war hawk like Hillary.

Clinton has been in support of every single war for the past 25+ years and she has voted in favour of every war that was tabled while she was in the senate, including Iraq. She is a warhawk.

Trump is an isolationist and has said on record several times that the US has to stop getting itself into costly wars because it is bad for business and costs too much money.

Hillary on the other hand has said she would obliterate Iran which both got her in hot water with Obama and the United Nations. She is a war hawk and a lot more dangerous than people realize.

Doesn't WPATH have a Standards of Care document for those who identify as transCanadians?

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

Adolf Hitler was nominated in 1939 my a member of the Swedish Parliament before Germany invaded Poland, but after they annexed Czechoslovakia and made the remainder of it a puppet state.

You obviously didn't have the means to have your daddy keep you from going, like George.

I like Hillary and will not support Trump. Trump should be simple to defeat. Beep Iran! Let Isreal have the entire Middle East as far as I am concerned.
