Hey girls. I found Dr. Mayer in my search for a FFS surgeon and I really liked what I saw from his work. Has anyone here had surgery done by Dr. Mayer or any experience with him?

He doesn't seem as popular as the other American surgeons like Dr. Spiegel, Zukowski or Deschamps-Braly so I couldnt find many reviews on him.

He recommended hairline advancement, brow lift + orbital shaving, a rhinoplasty and a chin shave for me which is pretty similar to what the other surgeons have recommended, so that left me confident in him.

After my consult with Dr. Mayer I would have booked with him except for the fact that he only does the shave technique for foreheads. He told me i could achieve a feminine forehead with his technique but I'm not too sure how much I can trust that without an X-ray. As I understand, it depends on the thickness of your sinus bones and in most people that are too thin to shave into a female shape + position.

So my main concern, should I even consider him with my forehead bossing?

So to anyone that's been to Dr. Mayer:
How good were your results with his shave only approach on foreheads?
Any bad experiences?

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on him. Actually deciding on a FFS surgeon feels like a nightmare to me and any help is awesome.

Hi,

I had shaving done and regret it to this very day.

As far as I know, it's performed by surgeons who are not trained in cranio-facial work.

My surgeon of choice in 2004 said having X-Ray's/CT Scans done prior to surgery was unnecessary.

See my tales of woe:

and at last my forehead is going to be reconstructed in April.

See:  https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,199847.0.html

and look how much I have spent crossing the pond three times on pointless burring revisions.

I do have a few friends who have had their foreheads burred down but it's very risky and the result is usually never as good as reconstruction unless one is very fortunate.

To quote Alexandra Hamer of Virtual FFS fame  http://www.virtualffs.co.uk/, burred foreheads tend to look 'Dolphin shaped'.

The main reason I wouldn't go with Mayer is because he won't do Type III forehead. Burring is not aggressive enough for most IMHO. You can verify it with an xray but most of us have that very thin wall.

He makes it out to be 'no big deal' but the truth is, he's one of the only docs that doesn't do Type III nowadays, I feel like.

If you like the results from his gallery, and you want to end up looking somewhat similar to that, then he just might be the best surgeon in the world for you. But if you would like to have naturally looking feminine forehead, look for more competent surgeons trained in craniofacial techniques. It is your choice to make based on YOUR research.
