I personally like anything "slim fit". Slim fit is where it is cut slimmer in the hips and thighs but not necessarily the leg, unlike skinny fit which is cut slim everywhere. I have slim fit bootcut, slim fit straight, and one slim fit tapered. The reason I like this cut is that my hips and thighs are a little curvy but not so badly it's really noticeable UNLESS I wear jeans that emphasize how SMALL my calves and ankles are in comparison (I have very small bone structure). I think the best type of trousers depends on the person, and I definitely suggest trying on a bunch until you get something you like. I wear a lot of Slim Fit Stretch Cowboy Cut Wranglers not because they look the best of all jeans on me (the high waist makes my torso look short) but because I am at the barn all the time and need sturdy jeans, not fashion jeans. Some of my fashion jeans seem more stylish, but sometimes you need to go with what is ideal for your situation rather than your form.
Not long ago I went shopping for men's breeches (the tights-like pants that you wear with knee high boots when riding horses English.). Obviously no cut of what is basically khaki tights with a knee patch is going to be ideal, but trying them on I found that some brands actually made me look more masculine than others. I couldn't' tell you WHY to save my life since they are both tights, but there was something subtle to the structure that just made one brand look better than the others. So I sincerely suggest trying a ton on until you find something that clicks in your mind as looking masculine. A jean style that works for one guy may not work for you, and that same style in another brand may not work the same.
