Hi, Im a 17 year old mtf. I want to start hormones but idk where to begin. Do I go to a clinic, my doctor, or look up therapists in my area or some other type of person? And yea my mum approves, yes my insurance will cover it, I just need a point in the right direction

Vanessa,

I think it may depend on where you live. Some areas or countries require a note from a therapist. Other areas can have what they call signed consent. I think signed consent may be a challenge until you are 18 if you are in the US. You might be able to have your Mother sign that since she approves.

You might look up the group PFLAG. They might have local information for who to approach. There are others on the site that might give you information as well.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

I think I noticed you are a new member? I wanted to share some links we pass along to members posting for the first time. There is some good welcome and support information there as well as the rules to the site.

The first step would probably be finding providers in your general area and asking what they require from minors to get on hormones. If it's a therapist, that's a thing you'll have to do (that would be a better question for people specifically in your area.). If it's informed consent you'll probably need to have your levels checked by an endocrinologist before getting on hormones. It all really depends on what the doctor requires from you and how many hoops there are to jump through.

Also, looking up guides for trans people in your jurisdiction will help with legal requirements (some countries require real world experience before hormones, which would be another step you need to do)

Good luck!
