Wild-Eyed

Hi. I'm a young transgender boy. I've known I was male since I was five or six, but didn't properly know what transsexualism was until I was at least twelve, felt that it must be some sort of sin for a long time after that, and the dysphoria eventually went away, at least, for a few years in my mid-teens. By the time I was eighteen it was back, and I found it increasingly difficult to cope with from then on. Various things have happened, and I'm finally going to be seeing a gender therapist in a couple months, but I fear they'll turn me away.

That's about it for me.

Hello and welcome  :)

This is a resource by a reputable source, the british National Health Service:
http://www.gires.org.uk/assets/DOH-Assets/pdf/doh-transgender-experiences.pdf

There are studies showing being transgender has biological connections, to do with brain development before birth. There are differences in brains of women and men so a mismatch is possible, in various stages. Imo thats why there is a transgender spectrum.

So its how people really feel, its nobodys fault, and its nothing to be ashamed of. It might help with self acceptance, and it might help cis peole understand. Transgender people have been around in all cultures... it simply is how people feel.
Apart from gender issues transgender people are people like everbody else, with normal needs and cravings.
Some people make a comparison with a male/female twin... people will be like a twin, with still the same sense of humour.

Here are a few further thoughts that might help:

And maybe you can make a few friends here:

Try to relax, you are not alone in this. Many people have gone through this and reached their goals.
Its a step by step process, just do the next step and keep going.

You could try a few changes to hair and clothing style, and see how they make you feel.

And an eperienced gender therapist will help you find out what you want. They will not turn you away.

Hi there friend,

The best you can do is be honest with your therapist and try to relax. I found that after about 2 sessions I felt much more open. + Remember, you're not proving yourself to anyone, you're just being you and catching them up on your life to date! Good luck and welcome!  ;D

Welcome to Susan's Place. I don't think you will need to worry about them turning you away as long as you are honest with them. The feeling can come and go depending on what you are dealing with in your life and from what I understand they can also vary depending on your age. You are old enough that what you feel now will be with you for the remainder of your life unless you receive the proper treatment. You are old enough that once they understand how you feel, you will be allowed to receive treatment. Many of us including me have this fear when we start treatment but I think you are ready for a great future. Feel free to ask any questions you might have and I will do my best to answer them.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

Alas, the only things which once gave me joy now leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd say look for a therapist to help you.

Well can you rekindle it slowly ? You will succeed this time, you are older, stronger and have better opportunities now, and you are of age now.

You could ask for counseling and a referral at plannedparenthood or a lgbt center.

I just had two psych nurses around to the house. They were useless. I'm supposed to be going to an LGBT youth club on May 2nd, but now don't know if I'll have the money for the taxi there (I'm always uncertain with strange buses). Rather lost at the moment.

Well an experienced gender therapist should help  ...

an option could be to look for counseling with plannedparenthood or a lgbt center ... maybe they could do some counseling via skype or phone ...

concerning taxi you could aks a taxi company, maybe you can make a fixed price ...

and there may be a printed bus plan of your city, so you could have an overview which bus runs where ... some companies send them for free ... or they may be available at stores ...
