Ok, so I was going to do a poll on this, but I figured that the answers would be so varied it would just be easier to post it here. I'm really noticing how broad my shoulders are and I'm curious to see how they compare to others. Do many of us have this problem? I've lost a lot of weight, but it seems like my upper body doesn't really burn that much fat when I lose weight. So, I was trying to get an idea of height compared to shoulder circumference. I should probably compare weight too, but there's no way I'm asking people to post their weight on here! So, I'm 5'6" and I measured my shoulder circumference right at the top of the shoulders and they were....45"...GASP!!! I think there are NFL players with smaller shoulder circumference than me, lol. Anyway, just curious what other people are at :) Meghan

I'm confused haha.  Exactly how do you measure shoulder circumference. . . is it like measuring your around your like arms and upper body or something?

Sorry, you just take a tape measure, put it around your shoulders, above your chest, just before you get to the top of the shoulders (basically above the bicep) and wrap it around your back and then back around. Keep your arms as close to your side as possible or it will make the circumference appear larger because your arms will be out a little. It's easiest with a fabric tape measure.

oh that makes sense :P

I did it for fun because I'm bored right now haha.  But I'm 6' and it came out to ~40 inches.  No idea what it means, but whatever lol.

I measured my shoulder circumference. At the top of the shoulders mine is 51 inches. I am post op and been on hormones for 8 years now. I have also lost some weight-60 lbs. I'm 5'9"

Mine is 43 inch, still got plenty of muscles to lose. Was 48 inch 18 months ago.
The male average is about 46 inch in the US (though its probably a bit higher than
that since this counts older individuals).  I'm 6 foot tall, bellow my bust I'm near 30 inch,
so there is quite a difference there with my shoulders.

I think the height to width ratio is as important as absolute width.
That's how the brain does a quick assement, saying if something is blocky
or thin.

As in like height to width for shoulder circumference or something?  I think I'm having an I understand nothing day. . . Can you explain in dumb terms for me :)

And is the male is ~ 46 inch. . . what's the average female estimated you think?

muscles are a bit tougher to lose than fat- that true?

ps..keep doing the cardio, stretches, drinking water, eating healthy and work it girl!

Shane, I meant shoulder width from the front or back, not circumference.

Circumference is also more a function of muscles and other soft tissues
since the back muscle and
shoulder muscle count for much. The good thing is that they can be lost.
Males tend to store fats in the back which should also be lost.

Thanks Keira!  I may have a chance at understanding now, eh? :)

I had a LOT of muscles pre-HRT. Just imagine this, my under bust measure has come down 5 inch already!! I had 39.5 inch bust despite my under bust measure being 30 inch now and still going down!! You can imagine that it takes a lot of pect and back muscles to make this 9.5 inch.

My right bicep was 13.5 inch, left one 12.5 inch with lots of tone, very lean.
Not very big, but bigger than average male.

Are we again seeking to define the perfect female symmetry and measurements?  Is the purpose of threads like this to make others whose measurements don't exactly fit that "ideal" feel less-than-feminine?  I truly wonder.

When will we have a thread that says, "Nanny-nanny-pooh-pooh, I'm more femme than you-oo!!"?  It can't be far away.

I don't know what my shoulder circumference is and I don't consider it a problem.  Grandmother Estrogen has treated me well.  I have a band size of 46 inches with a full C-cup, so I have a nice, easy-to-see "shelf."

My hips are about 48 with thighs and legs that have a nice taper and curvature.

When my waist is where I want it I will be more than happy with myself.  I'm happy right now.  The next stop for me is being ecstatic with myself.

Shall we measure in fractals?

BTW, I don't play pro football, thank you.  I don't even play minor league.

Hey Wing Walker,

I think it was just for informational use; as I don't think anything is a "true" feminine measurement.  I think most if not everyone realizes the power of variance in the world.  No one is exactly ever the same, so I don't think anything can be defined "true" except for averages of course.  Either way, I always enjoy the "I'm happy and don't care" attitude even more :D  If everyone thought like that, there would be no purpose for all these averages and junk! :P

Wing Walker, I'm sorry if my post seemed hurtful or misintentioned, it really wasn't I promise that. I would never knowingly do that to anyone here. I should not have used the term "linebacker" and I apologize for that, it was a stupid thing to say. I am just trying to figure some things out, I'm not as far along as most of you. I am just trying to get an idea of how much muscle I might lose and how my muscle ratio compares to other people, that's all. I really, sincerely didn't mean for anyone to take offense to my question. I usually post in my Blog where I feel a little safer posting. I kind of feel like that's my safe zone to post whatever I want, but I'm trying to be a little more public in the forums too.

Please just bear with me, I'll figure it out sooner or later, Meghan

No problem Shane, I think it's taboo to get off topic, but I do it all the time, so I definitely don't care if you do it in my thread :) Plus, you and Cindy are sharing marbles, how could I mind that?
