Hello Ladies and Gents,

Yesterday was the very first time in my Life I went to a Job Interview as MYSELF. (Avatar pic, Different Clothes) Woohoo.

I felt great, confident and nervous at the same time. It was a Security Firm in which I applied to a Office Position.

I get there and walk into the lobby and there were two gentlemen sitting in an adjacent room doing Computer work or something. One looked up and smiled and I just smiled back.
The receptionist knew right away about my status as I SPOKE.

She was very nice and friendly and accepting and was also curious and asked me how far I have come (Transition wise). After collecting my MALE Identification I said don't look at them, they are temporary, she said "Well, you look Great"! That felt good.

After waiting maybe 10 mins I was called into the interview room and met a Husky White man about 30ish in age.
I said Hello and he said it back. I sat down and he asked me questions, ect which I passed with flying colors.

Here is the bad part....

He started to tell me about a position at the Port (Ships and Trucks) where I would be outside (keep in mind Florida heat) and check badges from Trucks entering the port for 8 hours. I was flabbergasted.

I interrupted him before he gave me his entire spiel and told him I applied Online to a "Office Setting" position.
He then said, after looking thru papers, that the position was filled.

During the conversation he never made eye contact with me.

I ended up leaving without a Job and was told he would contact me when something opened up close to where I live.
Even thou they were the first company to accept who I am as an EOE, I was really disappointed as I left.
I have never "declined" a Job offer in my Life until now....as a Woman! 

So, now I just move on and embrace my experience. It does help me become more comfortable out and about and also is a step closer to me getting ready for my Full time RLE, which is in the near future.

On a Side note:

I already printed out the paperwork needed for me to file a name Change in my County. it's just sitting there looking at me all Blank and Empty. lol

My problem is I would have taken that job, but in used to being outside in heat,try Texas heat sometime,florida heat is nothing,i lived in florida for 6 months and worked outdoors and it didn't bother me. To me a job is a job as long as I get paid to do it..Right now I wash dishes for 10 dollars an hr.that's manager pay in alot of places and that job came looking for me and the owners don't want me to quit,they keep hoping I keep coming to work. I'm not out at work for this is recheck country and one has too be careful.

You must have lived here in Florida Oct-Mar if you think the heat here is nothing, Try May-Sep. LOL.

I spent 20 yrs in the Military, I spent many days in the heat all over the world.

Today...I have to still wear Wigs when out and about. This Job that they mislead me to try and take is not an Option. I would pay real money to see you in a Wig here in Florida working this job in July/August.

Wig,I had my own hair down to the middle of my back,it was the first part of may when I moved to new orleans and worked moving furniture for a yr and a half,nothing like gulf coast humidity and rain..I was once at ft dix N.J. during the summer 85 degree weather was whoopin everyone,except me for 85 is nothing compared to 90 to 100 plus degrees here in n.central Texas. Besides all I ever done was work in the heat. I hate winters and the cold.

Sorry you didn't get the job Jessika but congrats on what is a huge step. I transitioned on the job but, for reasons unrelated to my transition, I decided to start looking elsewhere for other work. I had a few interviews that went very well even though I didn't get the job. Since I still had a job it didn't matter too much not to get those offers, but then I decided to take a redundancy which meant I was most definitely on the market for a new job. Again, a few interviews but no luck, I was starting to get a bit despondent but was then fortunate to land a great job and have been there almost a year now.

During the interviews I was more mindful of the fact I was applying as a woman not as a trans person. I have to say that I found I was much more confident and engaged in the interviews than I ever had been when I had presented as male in job interviews.
