I've posted on this thread before, but it's been a while back. Tomorrow, I start testosterone, and my current forum profile pic is the last pre-T shot I will have of myself. Needless to say, I'm very curious as to if I pass well or not. I am already quite certain that I appear a lot younger than my actual age (I just turned 18 recently), but I have been told before on multiple occasions that I have the appearance of a 12 year old boy. For the most part it boosts my confidence, but at the same time there's that small part of me that longs to actually look like an 18 year old man. Which will come in due time, since I start T tomorrow. (Finally, after many years and a long journey that has only just begun, yet has been so long already!) With that, do I pass well?

Top surgery projected for Summer of 2017 with Dr. Sassani

Literally a crazy dog man. 6 dogs and counting, my little herding dog pack.

You look like a young teen boy to me, but it would be much easier to say if you posted a pic minus the sunglasses.  It's hard to tell with much of your face covered.

Btw, Mitch, I noticed your new profile pic and I am jelly of how you look. I know you've been on T longer. Great hairline, dude, and your face looks good. *crosses fingers*

Thanks, man!  I've been feeling pretty good!  Since I hit 7 months I've started passing almost all the time, which is awesome.  I will tell you my secret when it comes to the hairline, though--I shave it at the temples to make it more square, LOL!

Hello everyone! I was wondering if you would be kind enough to check out my selifes on Pinterest? I'm recording my transition on there. The link is in my profile, I'll put it here too.
There are only 8 photos currently. I'd like feed back. Honest feed back, no sugar coating please.

http://pin.it/PZa3rAB please say if the link is broken!

I would give you a 50/50.  At first glance you could pass for either a young teen girl or a VERY young boy, as in late elementary school age, maybe 10 years old.  Because your hair is dyed black, I would probably assume that you are a teen girl, though boys are dying their hair younger and younger, so very young boy is also a possibility.  It is a HUGE improvement from the first pic, however, when your hair was long.  You were definitely seen as a girl then, while I would now have to observe your attire, speech, and movement to decide for sure.  The painted fingernails probably aren't a good choice if you want to pass, though.  The black hair isn't the best choice, either, but you could get away with it.  The haircut works for a weird reason: moms often give their sons that bowl cut when they are kids, so it kind of looks like you're a young boy whose mom cut his hair!

Well, I'm sixteen, and I knew for sure that I didn't look my age regardless. The dye is actually an extremely dark blue, which I've heard doesn't come out ;-; I think i will have to bleach it, then dye it back to my natural brown. Do you think blond would be okay? Or do you think it'd be better to go to my natural brown? Either way, I'll need to bleach it.

Oh wow. I didn't think I was at the stage of people needing to observe just yet! That's amazing :) I did have a small group of children who looked about ten years old who kept looking at me, basically staring at me for quite awhile... Until they came to their own conclusions, that I was a tr**ny. Greaaaat...  :-\

The black nail polish has come off! No more! I have a lot of makeup so it's weird just leaving it be. My hair was done at a salon... And I didn't ask for a bowl cut...   :'( omg. At least it works though lmao. Thank you very much for being honest!! I like it!! :D Another question, do you think I could get away with asking people to call me a male name? Maybe not just yet, idk.

Thank you Mitch, I really appreciate it 🌸

Hey Oz; you do look sorta young for your age but so do most trans men; pre or post T; so nothing to worry about. I thought your hair was black too and it does suit you. I tend to think when dying your hair any colour you have to make sure you go to a professional place and spend quite a bit of money; so not ideal for your current situation. Dying your hair blond is especially tricky because you have to make sure your skin is fair enough and you get the right shade. So I'd say go back to brown.

I didn't think it looked like a bowl cut; more like the sorta hair style you saw men in the 90s sporting; but in a good way. Few are able to pull it off.

I don't think there's any such thing as being able to 'pull off' people calling you by your male name. People need to learn it's not a special need to be referred to by another name and pronouns than the one you were assigned with. It's a necessity when you're trans.
They/them pronouns preferred.

I thought you passed well in the picture with the hoodie. In that picture, I saw a 12-15 year old boy. I like the haircut and I don't mind the colour.

Hello Elis! I've always felt a little odd, with how young I look, but I have also noticed that it seems to be a common thing with trans men. It seems to be a family thing too, my older brother is nineteen but looks about sixteen... He only starts to look mature when he lets his facial grow. Same for my father; has always looked younger. Guess it becomes a good thing when you start getting old

Everyone thinks my hair is black, so let's just say it is.:) In the sunlight you can see a slight shimmer of blue. Spending money on my hair and going to a salon isn't a problem at all - I'm in care, so it's all covered. They get a budget to spend. If I ask, they can book an appointment for me to go and have my hair bleached and then dyed back to brown.

As I'll need it bleached regardless, I might take it in steps. See how it looks, then if it looks bad, go to brown. I do think brown would look more natural and help that little bit with passing. I've only ever met two boys with blond hair in my life time. Not common here.

ah thanks! I kinda like my cut too, I'm making it work. The less I do with it, the more I pass.

When it comes to male name and pronouns: being in care makes it a bit more complex. Firstly, they need to ask permission from my social worker and my Camhs worker. They both take the role of parent, as there's nobody else around to consent, and decide what can and cannot happen. So, we're waiting for that. I've asked about being called a he instead, but I've been told it might not be able to happen because "you haven't had the surgery... So until then, you're still a girl. You're still a she." ._. Then there's the fact that me and my keyworker need to explain to everyone, staff and children, what the hell is going on. Why I'm suddenly being called Ozzy.

I think you look most masculine in the picture taken at half past twelve in the morning.  It has something to do with your smile, or in that photo, lack thereof.  Your smile accentuates some female qualities.  I have the same issue, even in my 40's!  I have been trying to show expression more with my eyes than with my smile, as it really helps.  Young men your age are often pretty solemn with expressions anyway, in my opinion.  Maybe your natural hair color is best...or maybe you will go through a bunch of styles/colors as you find your best look!

Hey oz
My honest opinion.you look a lot like a friend of mines son. However, you still have some girlish features. Mostly the neck. With T you'll probably do very well. I wouldn't worry too much as your very young.
That is my very honest opinion. Your lucky to start at such a young age. You'll do just fine.
Be happy

You pass easily! I like the hair.

I was nervous when I first saw this topic, but I may as well: (broke my dashed binder so baggy hoodie, and excuse the horrible chubby face!)

Your face doesn't look chubby at all! i see jawlines and cheekbones :P
