I think when I started, it affected my inner ear for a day or two resulting in dizziness which could resemble some of the symptoms you described. It passed pretty quickly and I haven't had anything like that again. You didn't mention if you are on pills or some other type of delivery. I suspect injections would have a more noticeable effect than pills.

Hi Joanie,

First of all, congratulations on starting HRT!  It can really change your life.  :)

To answer your question, your reaction may or may not be due to estradiol.  Estradiol does have an effect on the endothelium (the cells that line your blood vessels), and can, over time, reduce blood pressure, but I don't know if there can be an acute effect.  I never had any kind of reaction like that.  If you continue to feel that way, you should consider contacting your doctor.

With kindness,

Terri

Congrats Joanie!  Woozy is EXACTLY the word I used as well for describing my first day on E!   :D

Hi Joanie,

I had all those symptoms with estradiol but that doesn't mean you shouldn't see a doctor. My 2 year history of self-med saw some pretty bad moments. I would get checked: bp etc.

Having written that, putting estrogen into the system as we do can affect us in all sorts of ways. I've had all those reactions not just at first but sometimes later down the road. The worst was when I used intramuscular and I had a week of feeling really really out of it.

Take care. Just get checked to be sure though okay?

Congrats. I started 2 1/2 weeks ago, and luckily, no ill side effects. Been feeling really good.

July 2 was one month for me.  I can't say I was woozy but I did have some strange feelings, almost like I could tell there was a new medication in my body.  Maybe tingly does describe it.

Thanks Ladies!

It is a pretty radical shift for the body so I guess it makes sense that it would feel all kinds of weird at first...

Whats weird is, when I started my hrt, it was as if I was meant to have estrogen all along. My mental state has even straightened up. For me the inner effects is what made the most sense, physical aspects is just icing on the cake.
