...people are atheists?
this was said by a brilliant man, but i fail to recall his name. basically you're a sinner if you think for yourself. for example, if you act out of your own personal conscience instead of doing exactly what the "bible" says, your're pretty much &*%^ or else you're a christian. i think that's why they have so many followers. they do as they please, and beg for forgiveness, that explains alot of bad things in this world. learning anything contrary to your religious dogma is a sin. so my fellow susanigans, think about this. if you save a life with science, you're &^%$. notice how prayer changes nothing. if for petty religions, we would be extinct by now. in short, if you wanna worship anything, worship science. ha ha ha ha
Apparently that man was so brilliant that his name has been forgotten, or at least it isn't in the posting. Ignorance seems to be en vogue in the above proposition.
A whole lot of people have been taught some very bad religion, beliefs that the Creator waits to crush us like bugs, or that we are not allowed to examine something and draw our own conclusions. A government should not be allowed to wrap the Bible in the flag, as they do in America. It appeals to the narrowest of minds to come out of the woodwork and set themselves in judgment over all who don't agree with their thoughts, if they actually *do* think. It is amazing how smart a dimwit can sound when appealing to the worst in people by disguising it as the Word of God. I am sure that someone already believes that they can tell me where is my parking space in hell.
I am transsexual, remember?
A mind is a terrible thing to waste regardless of how it was wasted, especially if the person who has the mind knows better than to let it stagnate but lets others do all the thinking anyway. Was that the Third Reich, maybe?
I am not an atheist. I believe in the Supreme Being, and the Supreme Being wants me to think for myself. That is why I know that the Bible is a guide to my actions and the rule of my faith. It is not the only tool I have for my thinking. My mind is quite active at age 56.
Religion without science is blind and science without religion is lame. --- Albert Einstein, as I recall. Therefore, I see no conflict between religion and science.
I was given a mind with which to question all that is in the universes, a mind with which to question the Creator by asking for knowledge. I believe that the Creator fields all of our questions but we must ask and make our minds to be open and quiet while waiting for the answer.
Given that the Creator is the Supreme Being, and, in my beliefs, is eternal, the Uncaused Cause, the Creator's ways are not my ways because I am a temporary resident in this world and this world was created by the Supreme Being, as was all that is seen and unseen.
Prayer doesn't change things. It changes people, and people change things.
I have been blessed beyond my ability to comprehend. I have not sat home every night in sackcloth and ashes. Before I started my recovery with Alcoholics Anonymous I partied a lot and I never found it a sin. I never ate bread and water. I cooked and ate fine meals, for which I am grateful to the Creator.
And to whom is anyone else grateful for their blessings? Can another human make anyone's life better on their own, lacking the inspiration of the Supreme Being.
My religion tells me to learn about the world around me, about other people and their beliefs. And it tells me to be pious. And what is piety? It is nothing more than me living my beliefs and putting them into practice in my dealings with my fellow humans, and to be mindful of my Creator and living my life in a way consistent with my gratitude.
This is my personal belief, expressed in response to the proposition originally posted by Natasha. I feel no need to defend it so I won't.
Now who was that brilliant person again?
