Dakota

Been lingering in the shadows reading posts for about a week, and decided to finally say hello! I'm Dakota, I'm turning 20 in a few months and I'm from Ontario Canada.

I was assigned female but I never really fit in with the girls. I never 'felt' that I was a girl, but I just assumed that was how everyone felt regarding their gender. As I grew older and learned all about LGBT stuff, I started looking into my orientation. When I heard the word transgender and learned what it meant, I thought nothing of it at the time.

Fast forward to this year... I started to really question my gender identity, I didn't feel right presenting as a girl, having she/her pronouns or a girls name. So I researched about being transgender. But it still didn't fit. I heard the word 'non-binary' while researching about being trans, so I started researching that, and things started to click. I feel that the best term to describe how I feel is 'Agender.'

I told a few friends how I was feeling and they helped me through it. They were very accepting, as I knew they would be! Eventually decided to pick a gender neutral name and use they/them pronouns and my friends made the switch very easily. I'm still not out to any family members. I'm really nervous about that. But I'm hoping I'll feel ready to do it in the new year to start the year as my true self.

So, that's my little story. Thanks for reading and I'm excited to be part of this forum!
