I'm trying to figure out how long it takes for fat redistribution, specifically belly fat to start, and complete.

Does it matter what weight you are? (Bmi, etc).

Does consistent weight loss while on HRT help or hinder fat redistribution?

My situation is been on HRT for only a few months. I have had rapid weight loss over the past 18 months. Still losing about 3-4 lbs a month.

My BMI is currently 22.8.
Mostly fat, and belly fat at that.
Some rounding of the face and thickening of the thighs at this point.

It seems like the belly fat is what's preventing many women's clothing to fit properly, why I'm concerned.

I have also read that fat redistribution isn't really a thing, that what we perceive as fat redistribution is actually slight fluctuations in weight. Lose a little in one area, put it back in a different area.

If I'm constantly losing weight, it seems logical that I would just be losing a little in spots, but not putting it on in "the right spots"

Yes, my experience is the same.  A few months ago I deliberately lost some weight and got my BMI a little under 22.  At that point my bones were sticking out and my body fat on the female scale was around 13%. 

HRT changes were not happening.

Since then I have allowed myself to gain weight back and it is mostly going to the right places. 

I don't think fat is going to migrate around your body on its own.

My plan was to get to right below 22 (5 ft 9.5- 140) to get rid of as much fat as I could, then gain around 10 lbs and settle around 150.

I imagine that my body still needs time to reabsorb the loose skin. I was 245 last May, and 205 at New Years. Lots of extra skin.

Nice to know that at least others have experienced similar effects.

I only managed to get to 157 before I was looking grim. 5'11".  My face also began looking masculine again.  This was me in April.  And after all that I still had those two fat pads on my lower back that I was really trying to lose.

Wow! Yeah. I can definitely see the gauntness. When you gained back weight, did it go to the right places?

I'm dealing with those fat pads myself right now. :-(

Any luck getting rid of them after weight gain?

I gained back about 25 lbs.  the majority did go to my hips and breasts with some to my waist.  A lot went to my face.  Overall though my shape looks pretty good now and I can pass often just wearing jeans an a t shirt.  The fat pads are still there.  :-(

I did have to resign myself to the fact that a 28 inch waist was not ever going to happen.  At my thinnest it only got to around 32 inches.

Seesawing my weight has been helpful for me - lost 4, gained 6, lost 8, gained 6 etc. The gaining made the weight come back in the right places. My butt is quite larger in comparison to pre-hrt.

Not sure it is the most healthiest plan or easiest to pull off, but it has worked for me.

Interesting post! Ont he one hand we girls want to lose wheight (cultural demans, ugh) but want the "rack"...
The trick (if any) is for fat to "shift" around (for lack of a better set of words) to hit the right places...for that...there hast to be some fat LOL
I myself still have that "male spare tire"  >:( around, but, I am two kilograms (some four pounds?) over my "ideal" wheight...I am supposed to wheigh in at 85 kilograms...I have 88 to drag around  ;D so some fat is there...hehe
See-sawing wheight is a trick, thanks for that, RobynD.
Starving is not an option, letting go of cultural demands is...so, okay, I have this "spare" around...okay, parade any 50 cis-women my age (52) and you'll see some "extra" around in most of them.
By the way...most of my female colleagues agree on one thing: you drop wheight...the rack goes first...sorry girls :)

Keeping in mind my own fluctuation has not been that dramatic, i will say that in periods of losing weight i have not measured smaller breasts.

My wife on the other hand, will lose some breast size when she loses weight.

When I lost weight my breasts lost two inches.  Since I started eating again they have gained three inches back.  My hips were similar.

Here's a quick breakdown.  Your fat cells have a life cycle.  They're constantly breaking down and being rebuilt.  And you have a set number of fat cells that fat is added to and taken from.  After starting on HRT when your fat cells have reached their lifecycle and a new one is being constructed... your Hormones will act as a road map as to where that fat cell needs to be built.  Depending on where your cells are in their lifecycle when you begin Hormone Therapy you will see faster or slower results with fat redistribution.  Which is why they have such a big window for redistribution.  Hope it helps.

I'm 5'10 and the lowest I've been since HRT is 135 - still had a bit of a belly.  I'm 145 now, belly still the same - I think most of it has gone to my legs.  I've been on hrt since oct 2015.  I think I would have to go way too low to get a flat belly just from weight loss, probably need to try to tone the muscle there instead

Does anyone know if the results with the seasaw technique can be accomplished by dropping all the weight then gaining a little back at the end?

It kind of worked for me.  My breasts and hips shrank down to about minimum size, along with my waist.  Then when I gained again it all came back with my waist still smaller than it started.

I kind of suspect though that I really slowed or halted all progress for about five months.  In the greater scheme of things that probably doesn't matter, but be prepared if it does happen.

I kind of figured that might happen.

Still I think a slimmer profile will help with passing in the end, and getting the spare tire will definitely help with clothes.
