So my sister spoke to my five year old nephew about me she wasn't straight forward because she wanted to start slow for him to understand but i disagreed but couldn't step in and have them just say it the way they felt best so i let them.
They some how managed to ask him just to call me by __ name and didn't mention the uncle part yet just said not to use autie so he freaked out thinking that they where going to take him away from me. I know there going to eventually pass this over to me but now that they already freaked him out because no one wanted me to do it i don't know how to make it better or to tell a five year old who is already scared i don't even know why i think he see's it as losing me?
:( Advice? i don't want to freak him out, i almost feel like leaving it alone till he is older but people keep telling me to tell him young.

I'm very sorry for how that's happened for you. However, I think you can patch things up.

I think you were right- being direct would have been best, kids are usually good at understanding something if adults tell them directly.

Exactly how to patch him up, I'm not sure... I think your first step is to make him feel secure knowing that you love him and aren't going anywhere.

After that... I'm not sure exactly how to tel la young child. What did you have in mind?
