Are MTF people embracing our true identity, or are we, like some detractors say, frauds? WHo were we, deep down inside, born to be?

There is no one more expert on me than me. What can a detractor possibly know of me. I was born with a brain telling me that I am female. Is that any less important than the rest of my body? If someone is born with a life threatening heart issue, do these people say that it is wrong to fix it? The reality is that if this subject had nothing to do with the general idea of sex, no one would care. I will not be a slave to someone else's "hangups."

What's our true identity in your opinion?

I don't know. I've been wrestling with that question lately. My problem is that I'm not sure if The question is coming from the inside or if it is externally imposed.

The reasons I suggested this section from Kill Bill 2 was that Bill is speaking about a "secret identity." In most cases, super heroes put on a costume to cover their true selves. In the case of Superman, his true self came about at birth and from childhood on he was told not to reveal who he was. Batman and Spiderman and the others did not have to hide that self become only later they became the new selves.

Hence, our core identities came at birth--hence "Superman."

I don't think things are that simple... Clark came here as an infant. He did have things that about himself that he had to hide, but he was raised as a human being and not a Kryptonian... He was Clark before he was Superman (or Superboy) and that nada huge effect on how he developed and who he was...Evan as an adult he spent most of his time and  related to other people as Clark much more than as Superman.

Superman was role the fulfilled where he could use his abilities, but it was more analogous IMO to a  job (or hobby).

If he lived full-time as Superman then that would change his relationships with individuals and his relationship with the society and how he sees the world, but those formative years would always have some effect on his identity even then.

So yes we (or at least many of us) were "different' from birth and knew we had to hide part of who we were, but who we are is not independent of our pasts. That makes things complicated for those of us who wrestle with those types of  issues.

With transition we do more fully embrace the women we should have been, but who we are tends to be complicated, as much as some don't want to deal with it (sort of like SP6ers)

Yeah, I get what Bill is saying about Superman, but I think Bill gets the mythology a bit wrong.  "Superman" is also a front and a costume, just like Clark Kent is.  He's really Kal-el.

That, however, is pedantic.  The bigger problem with the metaphor is that Superman is an alien growing up in Earth culture (so far so good), but when he comes out as his "true self" he doesn't have his true culture to transition to, and so he ultimately stands alone.  Michael Valentine (A Stranger in a Strange Land) might be more apt, but that book is problematic as all get out.

All that said, I think I get what you're getting at.  We have to embrace the fact that we really were always female, and integrate that into our understanding of ourselves... and hence how we live in the world... yes?
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.
