Get consults on face lifts. Anyone know who's the best stateside? I'm many years post Ousterhout, so the bedrock is there and fine.I have air miles, so overseas is an option. Thoughts. Suggestions. Ideas?

My mom got a fantastic result from Dr Thomas Mustoe.

She had it done about fifteen years ago, and even today (she's in her mid-70s now) she's regularly taken to be ten to twenty years younger than she is.
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.

There are literally hundreds of plastic surgeons across the country capable of doing face lifts.  My advice is, first of all, don't fall for these mini-lift or soft-lift procedures that used to be advertised on TV.  They are a waste of money because they don't last.  What you need is a full SMAS face lift.  SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) is a layer of tissue deep within the skin and subcutaneous tissue. It is one of the most important support structures for the face. Without dealing with the SMAS, a facelift will not last very long.

Clara Kay - -  you nailed it.

There are a much smaller number of plastic surgeons who are fully trained at and REALLY good at doing the full SMAS procedure.  And a still much smaller sub-set that are familiar with FFS surgeries and the implications of those surgeries for a later face lift.  The SMAS procedure is a rather sophisticated and difficult surgery and takes unusual caution, care, & skill.  Sometimes it is advertised or "featured" - - but often something less is what the patient ends up with and does not really know the difference for a few years.

I want to thank all of you for your input. I put the questions about SMAS to my doctor and that's exactly what he does. I looked at the Chicago connection. He looked great. But having to travel versus staying in the city was a trade-off.

I booked today and put down a deposit. It's deja vu when I spoke with Mira and they had an opening and I found myself taking it. Some of the best money I ever spent--the gift that keeps on giving. Now for a touch-up.

Again, thank you for the support of Sophia Sage, Clara Kay, and oneoftwo (are you related to Seven of Nine by any chance?)

Best wishes, Virginia! Once you're recovered, please come back and tell us how it went!

Best wishes, Virginia! Once you're recovered, please come back and tell us how it went!

In preparation I have set out on a self-imposed  sensible wt. loss program to make sure my surgeon is not dealing with fatty skin--plus it's just good business to be trim.

I am trying to stay under 1000 calories a day and burning at least half that in exercise--a tough one as I work and its hard to fit in. I am on an Atkins diet (in the 1950s this was called a Rockefeller diet, in that is consisted of "steak," though not really) which mean no carbs. Protein and fat are ok. Bye-bye pizza and pasta. :(

Of course no booze and beer is a no-no, but these days I only have a cocktail every few months.

But the results are steady and permanent so long as I stick to my guns.

Will let everyone know how it went after I emerge. New face, new weight! I plan a full makeover after this is done.
