I'm going through tracheal shave and started thinking about what to tell to people if they ask about the scar shortly after the surgery before it heals. What kind of excuses are there? :p my incision will be placed under the chin. Thanks

Depending on the climate, you could possibly wear a scarf to hide it?

If the scar is at the neck you could say thyroid surgery, which is however something serious. If it is under the chin, maybe you can say it was a bit of a facelift?

Knife fight, had a boo boo removed. The truth is after mine, nobody asked but once the stitches were out, I could cover it with light makeup so it didn't show. There is still a mark there but I stopped covering it with makeup and still nobody has ever asked.

You can say you got lipoed under the chin to get rid of a fat pad.

The scar under the chin will blend in with wrinkles, and is generally not visible to begin with in that position.  It's never come up since I had facial surgery back in the day. (Unlike the hairline scar, which *was* noticed once.)

Right now I'm day 2 post op and my neck/chin is swollen, 2x the normal size now and wondered what I'm gonna say if asked...  yesterday Uber driver asked and I said I had a throat surgery.
But I'm now more concerned about the loss of my voice...

I had a trachea shave last month, and it took about 3 weeks for me to get back to my full vocal range.  Like you, I was worried at first, but it gets better with time.  Try not to use your voice too much and get plenty of rest.  The swelling can last a lot longer though...

Oh dear it's reassuring to hear from someone who's been through this but at the same time my hopes of getting my voice back quickly got shuttered    the swelling makes my jaw line look so huge now...  and strangely my doctor told me to try to speak loudly to get my voice back

when I had my tracheal shave, I wore a scarf for a week even if it was summer that time. But after a week the scar was still visible, everybody from our office thinks I was robbed and someone slashed my neck

I look like I'm a victim of domestic violence now. And my voice sounds like I'm a serial killer in one of those horror movies. I had to make 3 phone calls today
