T worsens bone density?

Does T cause osteoporosis? It's listed as one of its' side effects in something that I was reading for HRT so I wanted to know if the bone density really is affected for the worse as mine was not normal even before T...

Will it still make it worse if the o's still produce E though? I just don't get this hormone stuff.

For both sexes, the only significant risk is having insufficient sex steroids, be that Testosterone or Estradiol, and for prolonged duration. BOTH are important for maintaining bone mineral density. They actually work together to that effect, not independently.

However, per current studies, it is true that women are at greater risk than men for Osteoporosis. BUT, that could be somewhat skewed because hysto/oofo was real popular "just because" not so very long ago, and then it wasn't regarded as so critical to actually stick to HRT (my grandmother went without HRT for DECADES after and unsurprisingly has Osteoporosis). Then again, menopause comes much earlier than does significant andropause, typically... so par for the course, women are still more likely than men to be affected simply due to that factor.

In other words, you really shouldn't be worried about it. As long as you don't cease T after Hysto/Oofo for any great length of time you should be just fine. Even better off than those not ever going on TRT, really (T drops 1% annually after age 40; your levels, if you continue TRT, needn't regress anywhere near counter-effective levels, ever).

P.S. Your ovaries will NOT still be producing endogenous Estradiol while you're still on TRT. They atrophy (effectively shrivel up and cease functioning). What Estradiol you have in your system while on TRT will be coming from Aromatase conversion.

What Magnus said is correct. The bigger risk would be say, having a hysterectomy (with oophorectomy) and then deciding to stop all forms of hormone therapy.

Thank you for that information. So T & E both help the bones but is that the case if the T is synthetic/not produced (enough) by the body?
I am a bit confused about my case though: I had hysto( still have ovaries) and I am not on male dosage of T according to my last lab results (It's the way I prefer since my body reacts to T not to my liking with normal dose)
I don't want the ovaries malfunctioning (as much as I hate them) because I don't want additional health problems than what I already have.

I was at my doctor's office and there was brochures for transgender HRT and that's where I saw the side effect of increased risk of bone density loss and it freaked me out since no one told me about it before when I was initially prescribed it.

Yes, still the case if the T is being externally added.

T by itself won't make your ovaries malfunction. The whole "T for an extended time causes cancer" thing is a myth. Some people do have cramping or other downstairs issues, but it's not a statistically significant thing. So you're probably good to go.

If it's a big time concern of yours, I'd discuss it with your doctor next time you're in there.

I would imagine that would feel physically awful too - having no natural estrogen production and no T... I recently found my sex hormones were naturally lower than they should be and I'd been feeling almost ill because of it. Since beginning T I feel much better and more lively.
