I have been scheduled with Dr. Crane in Austin Texas for my GCS on July 28th 2017. I have been given arrival dates and departure dates. All of the exciting information. I am having my fiancé travel with me, and we have been looking at booking an Air B&B to stay for a month. As it turns out to be cheaper when you book for a month vs. two or three weeks. Imagine that... It is due to how Texas taxes, but that is beside the point...

I am here posting because I had thought about trying to use someone closer to my residence for surgery. Anna asked me is there any surgeon in Ohio you can use. It turns out there is. Dr. Loren Schecter. Do any of you know anything about him? In comparison to Dr. crane, how do you think Dr. Schecter compares? I am having a difficult time finding information on Dr. Schecter. I know Dr. Cran is off the charts qualified – I will post a blurb about his experience at the bottom – The only thing is, he does not advertise post op pictures other than the few on his website, and does not often advertise that he does vaginoplasty.

If any of you out there have experienced surgery with Dr. Crane, or Dr. Schechter please leave a comment. If any of you know about good results/bad results, please leave a comment. Anything would be much appreciated.

Dr. Crane graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He was accepted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Urology Program, where he completed a 6-year residency. He then completed a fellowship in trauma and reconstructive urological surgery in Detroit with Dr Richard Santucci. Followed by a 3 year residency in reconstructive plastic surgery.
You can find the more information about DR. Crane and his Surgical team here http://brownsteincrane.com/dr-curtis-crane/ Along with the information I used in this post about him.

HI Aria!... I went with Bowers but I have a good friend who went with Dr Crane and was very happy with her experience and results with him.... If you want to PM me I can see if I could get you too in touch if you want specific details about Dr C and how he does things!

Take Care,

Ashley :)

Let go of the things that no longer serve you... Let go of the pretense of the false persona, it is not you... Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer.... She is tired of hiding and more courageous than you know... Let her prove that to you....Let her step out of the dark and feel the light upon her face.... amg🌸

Dr Schechter wrote a paper. I won't provide a link, but it should be easy to find.

Gender Confirmation Surgery: An Update for the Primary Care Provider

I would definitely go to Dr. Crane. I have heard nothing but nice things about him, and the word I have seen from him has been great. I have heard less about Dr. Schechter. I've heard nothing bad about his surgical skill, but some people have complained about insurance issues or less-than-helpful attitudes by the staff (though I have no personal experience and am only relating what I heard.) If Dr. Crane took me insurance, he or Dr. Satterwhite would be first on my list.

Satterwhite did my friend's last year under Kaiser, I don't know if that's changed or not.

ETA: you mean he doesn't take *your* insurance, I get it now.

I went with Dr. Schechter, in fact I am 10 days post op from him.

-Yes, there isn't alot about him and it is frustrating.
-Yes, his staff hasn't been as helpful
-He is a nice doctor and play things on the safe side.
-His work, I can not speak on as I am still healing
-Having said that so far his BA work is nice :)
-It took everything a while to get set up which was frustrating
-the unit where I was spending my recovery was in the surgery section instead of a speciality center (he does work in 3 hospitals)

You are in Ohio, I say it is worth the trip for a consultation. I know alot of what I might say may not seem positive but honestly I didn't have an option to shop around to compare him. You do, I recommend it you at least check him out. I am excited for you :)

Yeah, I have Medicare and Moda, two plans he says specifically they don't accept. It looks like I will be going to Dr. Daniel Dugi at OHSU in Portland. Not a lot about him online right now, but I met with him and really liked him and also spoke to a post-op of his who is very, very pleased both cosmetically and functionally.
