I also found that my skin gets dry much easier after HRT. Moisturizer is the only way out for me..maybe there's a reason why cis (at least the ones that I know) really like their hand creams, body creams, etc.

I and several other transwomen find that adding bio-identical progesterone helps counter dry skin and greatly improve skin elasticity, appearance and softness. Seems to also help significantly with brittle nails. :)

Dry skin is due to estrogen having sebum (oil) -suppressive actions and the loss of androgens which have the opposite effect.

I don't have that problem and I'm almost a year on hormones, but then again I rub aloe on my breasts twice a day to prevent stretch marks and to also increase circulation to help with growth.

Thinking about it it's only since i've been on my T blockers it's started to happen.

Then it's probably due to the loss of androgens.

I would see a derm about that.

Good advice for dry skin in general is to moisturize and make sure you're drinking plenty of water. Moisturizer can only help so much if your body is not properly hydrated. Especially on HRT, since Spiro tends to dehydrate you.

You may want to try coconut oil. Cheap and effective. Also the reminder to drink water is spot on. Water will also help ease electrolysis if you are having that done according to my electrologistl

Bleh dry skin, before HRT I had really oily hair, facial skin/body skin not I'm like a dessert and my T zone is always super dry along with around my mouth. Plus my hands chap and split really easily so I have to moisturize half a dozen times a day and sometimes it's still not enough >_<

Gosh...I've been drinking tons of water and I get the dry as a desert thing working as well. Particularly on my cheeks and legs. I haven't found any appreciable relief from moisturizer, and I've tried more than a few. Maybe I'll try Dawn's idea. Smell like a hula dancer and get some relief. Soundz good 2 me!

Progesterone (micronized, bio-identical) helps many girls...

Since my orchi and stopping the spiro my skin has gone from dry to soft but it took a few months to get the built up spiro out of my system, but I still apply Olay moisturiser daily.......

Cheers Tracy

sugar scrubs and oils are your friends! and a great moisturizer lotion! Coconut oil is great but its a sealer, its not an oil that actually hydrates so its best to use it in conjunction with something else unless you have naturally oily skin then coconut oil will work great.  Argan Oil is good for deep hydration.

"Skin surface lipids were increased during combined HRT, which may reflect stimulatory effects of the progestagen component on sebaceous gland activity, while oestrogen alone has a sebum-suppressive action."

Progesterone = natural moisturizer

would it also increase skin issues like acne and blackheads?

I remember the advice from the forum ladies and from my therapist that I eould have dry skin simply due to the fact that supression of T would result in less sebium production. So doing HRT I started a regimen of moisturizers every morning and night. I used a supermarket brand of Nivea cream.

So after srs, my skin became even dryer. Maybe a combination of age also. I find that the skin on my legs and arms are even dryer. I've tried many options: oil, coconut oil and lotions. Tried creams with estrogen which I used to soften up my labias after surgery, but in  milder mix. This dis softer up my skin but dryness persisted.

I went to a top skin doctor and he simply recommended that I apply a quality moisturizer immediatly after a shower. I now use Clarins super hydrating moisturizer, expensive but very effective.

Finally, use heavy sun block when in the sun, forget sunbathing. Sun will destroy the skin and age it quickly.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

I haven't had such issues with progesterone but if too much is taken, it can perhaps happen. In my opinion, way more effective than all the creams combined. Works wonders!

Thanks Kay....I'm gonna ask my endo about getting on Micronized Progesterone when I go in January. Maybe it'll help with my AAAAAAAAAA cup boobs as well.
