As some of you know (through old posts) I play cards in Chicago with a very LGBTQ friendly group.  I have been going as Denise, but always signed up for the night as Dan.  That gave everyone the impression I was a cross dresser.  WHOOPS.

So last night I signed up as Dee and it felt good.  I find this is a good group to start to get used to the Female pronouns (see previous posts) since I know everyone there is sincere.

For those of you transitioning who don't have a welcoming group that you can regularly attend, try to find one.  This one group of new good friends is helping me more than I could imagine.  Therapy is Therapy and is essential but this group is helping me to acclimate to new everything else.  If I screw up with a male gesture (legs spread, etc...) , no one will care.

That's great for you that you have such an accepting group. 

I haven't found any groups near me as of yet. Still looking.

Okay. I just want to throw this out there: All of the women on my Mom's side of the family sit like this. I've seen this ever since I was a small child.

Just something to think about.

I love social groups and find there are plenty of teases and jokes that border or cross the line of being OK.  Sometimes, if my feelings get hurt, I consider that at least these people are my friends and have remained so.  Maybe that helped with transition and maybe I just took it on the chin to keep from answering to every provocation out there.  Either way I am happy to feel less vulnerable to those who have a plan or expectation for me of their own.

I think we sometimes try to be funny and say things like "OK woman go, make me a sandwich" make it yourself caveman!  "Cross your legs honey"  you watching my basket because? 

Gender role policing may feel helpful to some and just another stricture to others.  And yes we all make mistakes so being helpful should be about those we help not how I want to see you act?

Isn't this what life is all about, not trans or cis but just living an interacting with friends? May you continue to be so blessed. - Anne
