I saw this thread on here about role models and it got me thinking.Who do you look up to? Did they help you on your transition?

My very first experience was when a fellow cosplayer Twinfools came out as trans and every since I'd notice similarities in our experiences. I've never spoken to him but I'm very grateful for how open he is and his cosplays are fantastic!

A few, Kim Petras, Jazz Jennings, Katie Rain Hill, This girl i talked to years ago named Kaeleigh before she decieded to throw me away, and i guess a source of strength came when i was 13 years old and i heard about this 8 year old on the news who had the courage to live full time.  These girls right here, gave me strength from many years ago

there is a trans youtuber that helped me which is strange because YouTube doesn't normally help me.
His name was jake Edwards, he explained gender stuff at one point and was the only person who made it click in my head. never spoke to the guy though, i just watched his videos.

There was one YouTuber called skylar or Skye I think and gosh did his videos help

I think one of the most powerful resources on the web is The Heroines of my Life, http://theheroines.blogspot.com/p/interviews_7.html ... some of the women interviewed may not fit your personal idea of who you want to be, but they are inspirational none the less.

I was mainly ignorant about being transgender until about 8 months ago. I have found many inspirations, right here on Susans. The one who is the best example I have seen and has an extensive photo collection from when she was a boy until today as she has had all the things done I wish I could. I choose Archlord as my inspiration. Nobody can deny how great her results turned out. See for yourself.

Another inspiration is Michelle_P  She reminds me I need to exercise.
Moni's comments are always as opposed to mine. Always well thought out.
One person I must acknowledge has been so helpful as I research, what it is that makes us transgender. HughE.

I just wish we could all get together and have a pajama party.

Dawn's mention of this got me thinking.  It might be nice to have really interactive periodic events, something like a Skype conference call, with members at a variety of points in transition, from 'thinking about it' to complete, as a way to provide more realistic role models with actual interaction with folks not as far along.

I think of it as using modern communications to provide a better, broader social support group session...

Although Wendy Carlos was inspiration from me when I was about 17 years old (I had stumbled on finding out she was trans bc I was studying music, loved her work and found her bio). Lately (in following community news articles) Its reading about all those with tremendous courage that are out there regardless of their circumstances, fighting prejudice, in legal battles, or just by talking with reporters in order to bring attention to an unjust matters of discrimination!
In film ( director, producers and writers) I much like the talented Wachowski sisters, that brought the Matrix trilogy, which has been used often as a metaphor for being trans , and Cloud Atlas which speaks of doing right in ones life!
All those " pioneers" that cleared the trail for us like Christine Jorgensen (I posted the full MGM movie in a thread I started ) its " golly gee" but if can get over the early script writing , its pretty good for its time!

I've never been into the concept of role models as such - have never really held some one up as an exemplar of what I wanted to aim for. That said, I must say I have found bountiful inspiration and encouragement from many of the people on this site, and have immense admiration for many of them and the difficult issues they have struggled with and worked through.  A tip of my hat!

To my understanding hes doing very well. I dont know him on a personal level but from what I gather he has one of the highest numbers of paid subscribers to my knowledge.

If you didn't get the hint from my signature line, Laura Jane Grace is a role model to me.  I don't know if I'm transsexual like her or not yet but much of what she's described about her struggles with dysphoria mirror mine very closely. Her courage to not only come out on a very public stage but to actually dedicate an album to the topic of transgender struggles demonstrates to me the kind of courage we all need to have.

Another I would point to as maybe an inspiration more than a role model is a trans woman I found on YouTube, her channel is called Kristin's Trans Life, Once again, while she's transsexual and I'm not sure I am, much of what she has shared about her now full transition from male to female really resonates with me.  She describes a lot of the same feelings in terms of dysphoria and questioning that I have and she is a significant part of what has kept me open to the possibility that I'm "more trans" than gender fluid.  In that way she's encouraged me to be more honest with myself and keep exploring.  Even though she's a good 7-8 years younger than me, her experience has really helped me grow and learn.

I was thinking more along the lines of Lingerie but to each her own. Some of us just never outgrow our Garanimals. :-)

I have known plenty of transgender people and found that what I really needed to experience was a non binary transgender person's personal story to finally get me moving.  Kate Bornstein provided further modeling as a "Gender Outlaw" and I have been fortunate to learn from many people right here too.  Along the way we have created a gender support group and a new Q Center in our community that brings it home as family.  Just met some new folks last night!

Now it is a recurrent and affirming joy to have young trans people show up in person and on the cover of my favorite magazines like National Geographic.  I find no end of fascinating and uplifting role models all around.

Susans place has been amazing and has helped a lot, I have lost many hours reading and reserching here!

As for a direct person in the public eye I find I am drawn to lana wachowski, the first Matrix is in my all time great movies and her story really intrests me.
