" Sex, Gender, and Bathrooms: A Discussion of Transgender (Part 4)

TS-Si Op-Ed Pages - Global Warning
Lisa Jain Thompson
Sunday, 27 January 2008

Political correctness normally prevents liberal modern society from subjecting certain subjects to scientific scrutiny, e.g., race, religion, intelligence, and, most recently, ->-bleeped-<-.

I have never been bound by political correctness (you can ask the third grade nun who taught me) or reluctant to poke into subjects that might give rise to great moral indignation by the offended cultural guardians."

That site is the most hateful and transphobic of all the HBS sites I've seen. To be that transphobic, when you're transsexual yourself, is just sad.

I don't think that HBS is itself an ideology of hatred, but I'm alarmed at the vehemence of some of the haters who justify their hatred with it.
Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride

I totally left a comment on that article...

I dont like that person very much, they are not intelligent or insightful..

I also left a comment on this one.

I really dont like this person and i am taking a personal vendetta against her to bring her ramblings down in flames.

She needs to get over herself and just accept herself and stop trying to justify that TSism is wrong so that she can say there is something wrong with her medically or pyschologically in a bad way...  It all is basically a big, OH no I am really a normal person I just have some f'd up thing in my head that makes me do this.

Its ok hun, now get on with your life already..

I sent the following letter to the editor:

Why would you let this individual post on this website, her writings are clearly not well thought, partial and innacurate.

She tries to sight scientific accuracies but does so in the most inaccurate unscientific way.  I wrote in response to one writing that a first year pysch student could have wrote a more insightful, accurate, and progressive piece of literature.

Plain and simple her meniacle writings are harmful and oppressive to the transgendered community, and I do not see how in good faith you could publish such thigs to the world under your website name, with or without the disclaimer you add, it is still here at your webpage, and unfourtionatly they seem to be the longest, and largest part of your presentation to the world.

I challenge your conviction that you here to help transgendered people accept themselves and will only be convinced by the removal or investigation in the writer/editor you endorse.

Please understand I am only a concerned individual, and my main interest lies in the progression of human knowledge, and despite her challenging views on the subject they are seemingly inaproppiate.

thank you for your time.

I responded to her comments section.
What an interesting person.
She seems to be voicing her own self-hatred and sadness by portraying herself as someone who has the answers.
Even though she admitedly is the one asking the questions.
Oh well.
She is looking for a reason why she is she.

She doesn't know.
And she seems to be blaming the transgender community for not helping in this.

That was what I read out of it.

The editor of the site posted a comment to one of mine saying " we have invited leading transgenders to publish a guest column with us and some have agreed. None have delivered as promised."

To which I sent her an email saying

"I would be happy to do a guest collum.

I will leave it up to you.
But you can no longer say that you have had no one in the "transgender" community take you up on that offer.

You have been taken up on."

I have been contacted by the operators of that web site about this thread and mis-behavior which took place there. I am to say the least very unhappy. This is not the type of activity my site should ever be used to coordinate. The discussions on this thread also violated the attack the issue, never the person policy. I am going to wait for them to provide me the ip addresses of the individuals who were disrupting their site and if they came from here I will be issuing bans. If you wish to avoid this my suggestion is to apologize sincerely and quickly to the TS-SI.org people, because if they request I drop the matter I will.

We may not agree with their view on transsexuality however they have the right to present it. If enough people believe as they do then they will gain in membership and authority, if not they will eventually be relegated to the lunatic fringe (not intended as a reference on their views or validity, I have not personally been to their web site.)

TS-SI.org and it's contributors have my sincere apologies.

Meeting hate with hate, though often a feel-good deal, rarely solves the problem.  It only makes both sides live up (or down) to the lowest opinion that each side holds.  Proving yourself right, almost never convinces anyone else.

I have learned enough in this world that when I see something with the letters "NASCAR"
it deals with people mindlessly racing around in circles at high speed to no purpose and so I avoid it.

I have learned enough in this world that when I see something with the letters "HBS"
it deals with people mindlessly racing around in circles at high speed to no purpose and so I avoid it.

Well, as Poul Anderson once said: I have yet to see any problem, however complicated, which, when
you looked at it in the right way, did not become still more complicated.

Mara messed up, and mara is very sorry to to the people of Susans.org.

meeting hate with hate was not the answer.

Mara is responsible for the mindless attacks against the HBS people soley, and did not cordinate anything against them, it was all me and my evil self.

I am very sorry to have gone there and done that, especially if susans.org feel that it linked the attack back to them.

Please consider this a formal apoligy.

Mara is somewhat a very activist individual who still has testosterone pumping in large amounts throughout her body, and apoligizes that my hormones got the best of me.

SORRY, I apoligize, I regret writing that.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME, please...  I will be a  from now on.

I sent the editor and the author of the article this letter:

Quote
"I want to make this short.
It has come to my attention in the last day, that recent comments made by me may have been misinterpreted as to thier original meanings.

First of all, Let me say that there has been no intentional, co-ordinated attack on your website from any user on susans.org that I am aware of.

There have been multaple users from that site linking to yours as a result of an article someone posted in a news section there.

That multiple people have IP addresses reffering from that site is a result of that and nothing more. It is a Transgender article being linked to from a Transgender site.

Comments made about that article on that site are due to the nature of the site being a forum.
All users are able to make comments, criticisms, and post thier opinions within the Terms of Use of that site.

That they do so, as a comment to an article posted, does not make them a co-operation or a conspiracy.

As for my own comments on your website, It was not my intention in any way to be insulting.

Personally or otherwise.

It WAS my intention to be honest. As for my own opinions as well as for my thoughts on the article. I do tend to leave an article that I am actively posting on in an open tab in my browser, so that I may see replys and return comments.
I then comment back.

If any of my posts were considered or taken as insulting, they were not meant that way.
I have actually never heard of a group like yours prior to a few days ago, and I had no Idea that such opinions even existed. I commented as I would any other article: With my honest opinion, and my information and posted reasoning for such an opinion. There was no predjudicial make on my remarks, as I have never heard of you before or of others like you.

I do intend to be honest.
And I will say so if I disagree with someones views.
But disagreeing does not mean I in any way meant to personally attack you, just to respectfully disagree with you.

Nor does it mean that I don't like you, or your website or have a problem with either.

The comments about the blog is simply the current definition I have been tought in school; there was no offense meant.

That applies to everything else as well.

There is still no offense meant.

So for any actions on my part that offended you, I appologize, as that was not my intent.

I think it is important for different opinions to be heard in any community as that reflects the diversity of the community.

Respectfully Yours,"

My respect for those who have cared, including Susan. She did a stelar job of keeping the peace.

My respect for you all,
And my appologies for those who were brought into this.

When I was in college and my first real bit of real writing was published, some of the people took it the wrong way.  Not even in a bad way, they just thought it was funny and I thought I should just instantly win the Pulitzer Prize for important thought or something.  So I went boo-hoo-hoo crying a river to my writing teacher who told me:

"Everyone who reads what you write is entitled to their own opinion about what they read.  If you don't like that, then don't publish."

Though I'm sure after reading it they were all so proud that they wrote something 'so controversial,' yet were shocked to find out that it created controversy.
