I have been on testosterone for two years and am very seriously considering detransitioning. I just wanted hear what to expect from someone that has actually experienced it.

Thanks!

Did you have a bad experience with it?

Have not personally detransitioned, but what you could expect:

- Your voice will stay at the pitch it is now. Will not drop any deeper but will also never get higher again.

- Your face and body hair will not come in any more than it already has, and will continue to grow in places that it has already grown. You will not get any new facial or body hair growth. The growth rate and texture of your hair might change.

- Any downstairs growth will stay as is, and neither shrink or continue to grow.

- Fat will redistribute back to a more female pattern. Muscle growth will become more difficult

- Hair loss (if experienced) may stop immediately, or may continue to fall out in small amounts. If you have experienced hair loss, stopping T will not reverse this.

- If you have ovaries, your period will come back.

- Skin oiliness and acne may go away.

- Scent and sweat production may change.

- Sex drive may decrease.

- RBC and cholesterol levels will most likely go back to pre-T levels provided you still have ovaries.

- IF YOU DO NOT HAVE OVARIES: It is very important that you involve a doctor in this process, as having a primary sex hormone is important for healthy bone density. There are options you could consider (like supplements), but your doctor will most likely recommend either a very low dose of T or estrogen in order to promote good bone health.

You should also be speaking with a health professional to monitor your levels while you detransition. Stopping HRT will have a major effect on your body.

Unless you take an E supplement after stopping T I suspect that your mood will crash hard and you may suffer things like anxiety attacks and anxious preoccupations. I had this problem when my body was left without sufficient T or E for 8 months. I'm still living with the consequences of strange choices I made during that time because I was extremely anxious and did/thought some very bizarre things.

I have not personally, because I haven't taken T yet, but I've researched detransition since I'm obviously apprehensive about starting T. This is my favorite blog post on the subject because it breaks down the entire process that she went through: <link removed by moderator>

I wish there could be more support for those that want to detransition from the FtM community and I wish there was more support for FtMs from the lesbian community. I read the account of the woman from that link. One thing that is clear is trans centered health providers could do a much better job of providing support and guidance for detransitioners. But the comments section on that article is just depressing.

That is a TERF blog btw. Probably not the most unbiased information you could read.

Ah....yes and no?

I started T as soon as possible because I assumed the way the system was I would never get a choice if I didnt take it RIGHT NOW.  I changed my name and pronouns because it made me feel good.

I grew up in a home that hated masculinity in females, so Im wondering if I decided to stay if I could wear boy clothes and have short hair and stuff. If I just had a few years that way Im wondering if I wouldve still felt like transitioning. I used to be worried about being called a "dyke" or lesbian but I'm over it now, I already cause enough head tilts being trans.

I still feel better with a male voice, male body, and people referring to me as male. I dont think I'd much like being called "ma'am". I dont know why but something about being a guy just "clicks", it feels right. If I wasnt a guy it would make me feel awful. No matter what you do people are always going to have preconceptions of you based on your sex, even as a maculine female you still get called sweetheart, honey, and generally treated like a woman until proven otherwise. That's not a really good reason to be a man, I know, its why I originally had my doubts back before considering myself trans. Although being a male just takes the weight off my shoulders in having to prove myself not-female, people look at me and they automatically think male things.

Have I considered not needing to transition? Yes, before and I still do. Am I considering detransitioning? No and I dont think I will, I've come too far to get to this state of confidence and happiness. Ive effectively changed my identity, and I look and feel better. If its wrong or unnescessary it'll be a hassle to go back to the way things were again. Its not a big deal, Im just me.

The link I posted was something I've read multiple times and I never felt it was anti-trans, but ok.

Then you'd be wrong.
