6 months later I'm dusting off this ol topic!

Hello! I've been away for quite some time but I've got some good excuses. In January I returned from 6 months of hell in a hand basket in L.A. I moved out to L.A to follow my girlfriend but it didn't end so well so I moved myself back to Colorado. I went through a very rough recovery process and I'm finally starting to feel better!!

But if there's anything I love to do it's document my beard process. Unfortunately I have no pictures for December as that was the toughest part of the process (this is when i found out things weren't as nice as they seemed).

Without any further ado! My beard journey for the last six months!

That's all for now fellow bearders (or hopeful bearders)! My goal is to look like a wolf man viking but I gotta put some muscle on first ahah!

Notes: That mustache is ever so slowly getting thicker. Much better than it was this time last year. Noticing huge strides and the beard looks pretty full albiet thin but thickness will come with time and continued HRT.

Started using Kalamazoo from Lush! Very nice on the beard and face. Makes my beard feel like head hair to be honest with you. I rub that in for a good 2 minutes every other shower day and pat it dry. I also comb it out. If you comb your beard in a certain way your body tends to grow it that way which is what I've noticed from combing my little chocolate milk stache out of my mouth.

Tips: Rub that face daily. Give it lots of love. This will cause the blood to really flow in your face and that's very good for beard growth! You can also try biotin!

And with that I'll leave you this picture of me that I snapped tonight. Wolf boy needs a haircut but I've got that Floki from Vikings vibe goin on!

Keep up the great work you guys! And if you have any questions please feel free to ask!! I'd love to see some of your beard journeys too.

I've found you, Beast!

Looks so good man! Sorry that LA didn't work out for you, but glad you were feeling good enough today to update.

I'm curious and wasn't sure if it had been mentioned or asked previously - could you talk about the facial hair genetics in your family? I'm in an FTM Mentor group and this gets asked so often.

Thanks, Max! It's always great to hear from you :^)

My brother and entire side of my mother's family can grow great beards and mustaches! We are almost half italian and the other half is English and Irish with a little bit of everything else. My father couldn't grow a very strong beard but his mustache was great! My grandfather on that side on the other hand can grow both a strong beard and a strong mustache.

I only ever saw my father with a mustache. He unfortunately passed when I was 6 but here's a photo for reference!

My maternal grandfather also sported a very thick mustache in the 80's

My paternal grandfather still has facial hair :^)!

And here is a photo of my brother. He likes to keep his trim and usually in a chinstrap but this was the most full I could find it:

My Uncle on my mother's side can grow a grizzly adams beard and my uncle on my father's side only grows the mustache as well. With all that in mind I should be able to grow a pretty good beard in the next few years.

If you look at all the vellus hairs I have I'd say I've got a pretty good pattern going! Here's another good look at those hairs
You can especially see them in my mustache but vellus hairs are a good sign that those hairs will eventually become terminal. It's just a matter of time.

Dude, your beard is looking amazing. I'll bet in the next year it will fill out a ton. 10/10 definitely jealous.

Mine's finally starting to grow in some sort of sad pattern (a year and almost 5 months in) but being patient is frustrating as ****.
I keep getting these random really dark hairs on the upper parts of my cheeks but nothing really in between them and my chinstrap. Sort of odd, but I assume it will all eventually fill out. I really want it to start growing on my actual chin instead of just underneath it, too.

Is it sad that I am more excited just to shave then I am actually having facial hair?
  •

Rengar

Not sad at all, bud! I was excited to shave but I was more excited to just grow. Haven't touched a razor to my cheek in sheesh...almost two years.

Hey there! It's nice to see your beard growing in full throttle, also you haven't touched your razor since last two years, right? Great dedication! Noticed what you said, you started using natural beard oil, may be that would be one of the reasons of beard hair growth and some of it also depends on genetics, we can't deny the fact that this point matters too. To grow beard naturally, home remedies like applying eucalyptus oil or castor oil or minoxidil oil would also work wonders for you. In your grooming regimen, inclusion of beard growth products like beard oils, beard wash or beard vitamins will also be effective. Apart from that, start exercising regularly for proper blood circulation throughout your body and eat a proper diet. I hope this will help you to grow a fuller and healthy beard soon.

I have a potentially dumb question. How can you tell the difference between the three stages of hair? I'm assuming peach fuzz just looks white and kinda fluffy and doesn't really grow but are vellus hairs the same color and grow? Or do they change color and are just really thin? I'm totally confused!
  •

Rengar

You're correct! Vellus or (peach fuzz) is the white long hairs on your face. When a beard hair turns into a transitional hair it's white at the tips and a darker colour through out. When a hair turns terminal it becomes course and dark!

Thank you for the explanation. It's been driving me crazy trying to figure it out.

I've just pasted the year mark and have a lot of vellus hair with some becoming transitional. I am hoping that by the time school starts in the fall I won't look 12 any more.

Thank you for the clarification too. It's become even more frustrating for me that I still have peach fuzz instead of terminal facial hair; apart from a few bits at the sides of my 'moustache'  >:(. My T levels are well within the male range but I guess I'm just the unlucky few.

Rubbing against the grain I guess you can detect where they're all activating, even where they haven't turned dark yet.

Notes: OFFICIALLY THREE WHOLE YEARS (give or take a few missed shots :^)c) ON TESTOSTERONE. Mustache is still trying to fill in. Doing a lot better than before. I had to trim at the end of May for my little sister's graduation. The clippers my older sister bought me for christmas only went up to 4 so I was cryin. The pictures from May show my beard untouched by clippers for 3 months. Last time I trimmed was in February :'^).

Still using Kalamazoo from LUSH every Monday and Friday. I don't touch my beard very often unless I'm stroking it while talking or thinking ahaha. I use Beard balm when it gets longer and I bought a viking bone comb from Grimfrost which feels really nice.

I started a bodyweight work out regime and I've been eating healthy since April!

Took the picture on the left today to show somebody my super cool new shirt but this is what the beard is lookin like from afar and the other is a picture of me and my buddy from LAST June to show the difference in growth:

And here's one with it's full length in the middle of May:

(Don't be alarmed I work for a school ahaha)

I'll try my best to update next month but just know: I take beard pictures once every month regardless unless I'm in some kind of emotional trap.

This is inspiring, man. You look awesome! (Also, love the parrot!)

But seriously, it's amazing to see your progress and it makes me feel hopeful for myself starting T. You've had some great facial changes, too! Will continue to check and see how the beard is growing! :D

Back with more!

July 2017:

Not a whole lot to report! Still using Kalamazoo. A pretzel fell into my beard and stayed there for a while. I can shove a comb in there and it stays.
Went to the barber and got it trimmed for the first time! She did a great job.

Great progress. It surely must help to have Italian genes ;) or any dark haired genes for that matter. It's us blondes that seem to have the smoother end of the beard deal :D
